Bob

That's what i'm planning my self. While the 2 step will be a universal kinda setup, ie. ground the arming wiring and it will stutter at the set RPM, i plan to include how to do just what you ask.

Basically, you want it to be normal most of the time. But when your staging, you put in the clutch, hit a button to enable the 2 step, and release the clutch to go back to full power. However, you'd like the 2 step to not come on when you press the clutch to shift to 2nd.

I plan to setup a relay to latch on when you press a button, as long as the clutch is pressed. Release the clutch and the relay turns off. But does not turn back on until you press the button w/ the clutch in.

I think that answered the question <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Harlan, thanks for keeping us updated on everything as well as you have been. I know you're pouring a ton of time, not to mention $$$, in getting the 2-step developed...

Looks like I'll have the 2-step in before I have an engine.

I don't know if anyone has said this already or not but couldn't you also use the 2 step as a rev limiter to replace the factory fuel cut-off?
Especially on boost or on the bottle you could eliminate running lean because of a missed shift or a tranny malfunction or whatever. I would much rather drop my spark cycle over dropping my fuel.
Just a thought.

OK

just resent the initial eamil to the new guys on the list

Things are more or less on track.

Board delivery time has been pushed out a few days, as i was reworking some stuff to handle the "quirks" of the M6 setup.

I should be receiving the boxes soon, and the harnesses should be getting assembled soon. Waiting on pins, connectors, and crimper tool <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I need this thing as much as everybody else, so i'm trying to keep it on schedule <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Hell, i got 4 weeks before my pistons arrive. So i got assembly time <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />

FWIW, it could be used to replace the factory limiter. But it's only designed for 1 adjustable limiter. You could use it for the final limiter if you LS1-edited the factory limiter higher than you normally used.

Will see what i can do for version 2 w/ 2 set points.

Harlan. I have been waiting for one of these for a long time. MSD was in the 'development' stage for over a year and than gave up on making it work. Shows everyone what one man can do that an entire company can't.

I do have one concern still. I have an M6. With the 'old' style it has a toggle switch to power the 2-step; and than with a floor mounted switch, when the clutch is fully the floor it activates the 2-step; floor the gas; release the clutch; this disengages the 2-step and off you go at a set RPM.

Will this basically how your's will work with the M6?

David

send you the email

And yes, that's about how it'll work

The initial test box i made was a single on-off input. Same box that I shipped off to the Colonel. For his T-brake it was fine, wire into the same button that engaged the brake. So for him, it was brake and 2 step on, or brake and 2 step off.

For the M6 crew, like me, it's a bit different. The goal is to allow you to use the factory clutch switch. the factory switch to the PCM is at the top of travel, but that shouldn't effect the operation. I figure once the clutch begins to grab the RPM will drop anyway and the 2 step will not be dropping spark. By the time the clutch switch is closed again, the RPM will be ok.

anyway, the revision that is going to production has 2 inputs. One is a arming switch. For the T-brake and auto guys, it's a simple on-off button. For the M6 guys, the arm is used with a "hold" input. The hold input goes to the clutch. So the arm will work as an on-off button if the clutch is not pressed. But, if you press the clutch, the arm button is "held on" by the box until the clutch is released.

So for a clutch launch it's like this

</font>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">clutch in</font></li>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">press the arm button</font></li>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">go to WOT</font></li>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">dump the clutch</font></li>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">GO!!!!!
    </font></li>
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif"><img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
or that's the plan anyway
As this is the first revision, there may be some tweaks involved. And i'll be more than happy to make changes for people if need be

Does this mean i'm cooler than MSD?? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> Just gotta patent this one before they get their greed meats on it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Next is the 4.6 mustang crowd. They too have too many coils than MSD knows what to do with, LOL!!

Harlan, if I want to spray out of the hole how do I keep the nitrous disarmed while the 2 step is enabled? Anyway to keep it off even though I would be at WOT and in the window??
