Default What kind of power have you made on an L33 5.3 aluminum block?

I am curious to see how much power people have made on the aluminum l33 block in specific. I have heard too many rumors that they dont hold up blah blah. I know a few people personally making 1,000 flywheel hp on an ls1 block. In which the sleeve thickness in the l33 is not quite but nearly double the thickness.

I appreciate the time! Thanks!

There is a dude that put 40 psi of boost through a stock bottom end l33 and it ran well into the 4's in the 1/8 mile in a 3000lb fox body.

That sounds very promising. I have a l33 block and wiseco 3.80 bore pistons, compstar rods, and supporting mods of course. Running a billet 75mm and looking to make 1,050-1100 on it. I continually get people telling me that the block will split. Wont last. All that negativity lol.
From what I have personally seen from the ls1/ls6 block I assume that with nearly double the steel sleeve in each cylinder that it will hold a considerable amount of power.
Thank you for the reply @Blown06

The guy I'm referring to ran the snot out of that thing. It eventually torched a head gasket and upon tear down I think 4 of the rods where bent. That motor was a freak of nature.

Miss the tune, and neither block will be around for long....
Thicker walls are only a part of the list of possible failure points. Add in cap walk, deck distortion, Bulkhead cracking.....

It is crazy isnt it? I have seen a few of these motors take whatever. I am an unlucky guy so I decided to get forged pistons and rods just for added insurance. I dont even plan on going as fast as some of the oem blocks have. If I do though ...cool lol

Absolutely Old Geezer. We have a pretty good program at the shop I work at. We have put out quite a few 8 second oem Ls bottoms(148mph-156mph traps). I just retired a 758whp 9 second(150+ trap) street/daily driven honda so I can get back into something rwd. I will always have a little ricer in my blood so that 100 pounds off from the front end of the car is very appealing to me! I am pretty up to date on where the ls1/ls6 blocks give out. Just hoping I can find some solid evidence on the l33 block before I blow holes in one and ruin my internals haha. Im really hoping itll hold 1,050whp on ethanol. I expect it will. hope.

As posted above, all the parts are susceptible to durability issues. It is without a doubt, a tuning issue 98% of the time. The other 2% is just a normal parts failure because..........well the part failed.

Stock ****, in order from greatest concern to least, I''d say

1. Head gasket sealing
2. Rods bending
3. Cylinder or main web (block spliting)
4. Crankshaft failure.
