I'd think about going about dumping that yank and get a 8 inch 5000 converter if you want it to really run.
Never in the 20 years I've been playing with card have I seen anything with a yank converter run as good as it could with one from any of the custom converter companies.

Exactly.
There's a reason that there's billet titanium bolt together converters out there for 6-7000 dollars some cases even more...for real race car stuff, not because people like spending that on one.
If you want your car to run, really really run, call someone and have one built.
Fti, circle d, both sponsor the forum and can build you one if you want to go that route.
If this is an n/a car ati has a 8 inch converter that works well with normally aspirated stuff guys I know that race stuff like super stock have great luck with that, I would also call ale my at Ultimate converter concepts he has his game running spot on from my past experience with him. Neil chance, pro torque, I can go on forever.
Plan on spending 1200, should be around there maybe less, if someone tells you 600 bucks, it's junk don't buy it

Get in touch with a converter builder and plan on giving him every spec of the car to build an accurate converter for your car. Weight, gear, trans, cam, heads, CI, power adders, and dyno sheet if possible. I use R&R in Asheville and they get me what I need. I'm planning on hitting 6.4-6.5 on a close to full weight 99 SS with a 346. It's ran 6.90's @ 103 spinning. I've changed a few thing and got him to build me a new converter and it feels like a monster, hope to have times this week.

3380lbs without driver (I was 260 last season and down to 240 this year) it has gone 6.9x @103 with a bad 60ft time. I went with 15" rims and skinnies in the front, th350 and another good converter, dropped 100+ lbs off of the car. I have another 150+ lbs to take out of it but I will be looking for 6.6x as it currently sits with decent 60ft and air. I built my car to run 6's on motor and 5's on spray (way down the road). I was ignorant on my parts choices people said and was told it would be much faster with different heads and cam but not many NA 346ci camaros are much faster at the weight I'm running. The 6.4-6.5's is my personal goal for this car, don't mean I'll get it but I'll be dang close. I've gone faster with different setups but this is my favorite car I've built so far, interior is all stock (until I get lightweight carpet and manual seat frame), and the only mods on the exterior is the racestar wheels.

Race star is about the worst name for that wheel lol, it's a 15 inch wheel that's so heavy it mine as well be a 17 lol.
Your goals are possible, I would not call the weight you're at anywhere near full weight. You're 300 lbs plus lighter than a full weight car... Please done lead people on by saying its full weight it gives people false hopes lol

I know you didn't say it was junk but every part on my car has been called that when I ask about something. I have a budget on this car and it does outrun a bunch that are running expensive heads, custom ground cam, bigger intake/TB, a 9" instead of my 8.8, and RTS wheels instead of my on sale racestar. Oh and my converter cost $450 instead of the big bucks. It actually makes me feel better to be questioned about my time and when people say I could've bought better parts. I could've spent more, but I like the feeling of outrunning people that have more money in their parts.
