Default Race gas sediments out? Help me out!!!!

okay guys I remember a big discussion about this from Nineball after Bowling Green NFRA event last year.

Does it or does it not sediment out? If it does...what does it look like.

Here's why I ask. Last time at the track I took 2-3 gallons of 104 race gas with me, Sunoco I believe. I was their when they filled the jug at MTI...crystal clear blue tint. Later that night we put a touch in the tank after the first run, still crystal clear blue. Day or so later we were looking at the container...it looked dark colored. Well today we opened it up, and took a real good look. It looks like someone dumped a handfull of crap in the jug. Alot of fine stuff, but alot of big chunks of grit.

If this **** just breaks down into this, than ****..it can't be good feeding it into your fuel system. I'm sure theres a filter but !!! I'll have to add another external filter I can see into!

Or I hate to think this is true... did someone dump a handfull of **** in the fuel jug, while me and Larry S. were making our run.

Wow Larry, that really sucks. I've never kept unleaded race gas for any period of time, but I've kept VP C-12 for months at a time with no problems. If there were chunks of stuff floating, I would have to lean towards someone putting something in the jug. Unfortunately, there are people out there that will do crap like that. It would be nice to see them do it.

Larry,

Sounds like you put the container in the sun. Racing fuel must be kept out of sun light.

I'm gonna pick some up, and test it out

Larry I've kept 104 Sunoco unleaded for 6 months or more in a 55 gal drum in my shop with no problem. I always make sure the lid is tight after I get some out. Never leave the container open or where air can get to it.

Same here I use to have 104 Sunoco sent up to Alaska in 55 Gal. drums. Just as Joe I always closed the drum as soon as I was done. But more to the point here I would put it into 1/2 Gal. jugs to bring to the track sometimes I would not use it and I would store it untill the next time out could be a week or two. I never had any problem. I would suggest getting new gas. I know it is hard to get rid of fine fuel but think how I felt having to leave 40 Gal. of 104 Sunoco (at $7.50 a Gal.) I gave it to a local NASCAR driver before I left Alaska. I know the next season he had a good time.

Medal containers or containers that do not let sun light pass are fine. Just don't keep it in plastic containers that pass light.

Guys, I was a chemist for Sunoco for a few years. While I was there one of the studies I was conducting was dealing with this exact thing. Ultra violet light will degrade the product and cause settiment to 'fall' out. That is why all of Sunoco's pipelines and tanks are coated with a special uv blocker to prevent this from happening.

I'd bring the unused portion back and demand a refund. Tell them you talked to a chemist from Sunoco and that I confirmed that it is a known issue.

Good luck.
