Default Finally broke through the 11-sec. barrier!

After the cold front moved through yesterday, I knew this would most likely be the last chance with anything near decent weather, so I took off to the Texas Motorplex, once again, for some 1/4-mile passes. I expected to only get 2 passes due to not having the 5th point of the rollbar yet, but the lady running the timeslip booth didn't notice that the 5th point wasn't there. I had a fire jacket as well, so she thought I was good to go. Who was I to argue?

My best 60' of the night was on the first pass, and it netted a 1.61. This was leaving at ~2,200 RPM. I tried 2,800, and I lost .05 in the 60'. I also tried 1,500, but this was too much for the track. I also have to send the PCM back to Ed Wright. My 1-2 shift was at 6,000 RPM, and the 2-3 was consistently at 6,580 RPM. I requested 6,600, and it really needs to be at 6,700. Hopefully I'll get it on the wideband O2 tomorrow to see how the a/f ratio looks.

Here's my best pass of the night:

RT: .525
60': 1.623
330': 4.743
1/8: 7.424
MPH: 91.35
1,000': 9.753
1/4: 11.728
MPH: 114.19
raceweight: 3,565#
density altitude: 1,502'

I was pretty pleased considering the weight, low shift points, and D.A. My timing was at 25.5 degrees on every pass with 0 KR. I'm going to see if Ed can squeeze out another degree or two while he has the PCM. After a little weight removal, I expect the car to tip the scales right at 3,500# for the Super Chevy Show in two weeks. Hopefully all of the tuning will be sorted out by then.

Gordon Sevins (GTS SS) with the solid-roller heads/cam setup made the trek all the way from Louisiana with his '98 SS, and that car runs STRONG! He was spinning on every run with 60' times consistently around 1.59, and the car was still knocking down consistent 11.1's @ 121+ MPH. Not too bad for a spinning car with mediocre weather. I was unfortunate enough to line up next to him on a pass, and let's just say that he put a beating on me. I had to tree him to get any advantage, but it didn't last long! There was a guy there that got our run on video, and he's going to e-mail it to me. As soon as he does I'll post it up so everyone can witness the dragging.

All in all, I'm very pleased with the setup. 11.7's with some tuning problems is alright with me with stock heads! I think I could've made it into the HIGH 1.5 range for 60' times and 11.60's if the track would've held the launches, but the 97% humidity started to form dew on the track...so much for that. I'm sure it'll be incredibly hot for the Super Chevy Show in two weeks, but we'll see if we can't squeeze it into the 11.60's then.

Trevor that is a very nice run into the eleven's with stock heads. Very good indeed. It has to be a great feeling running your first eleven. Your time is good as time with H/C job! Anyway I appreicate your advice and assistance in the past helping to launch and get traction off the line. Eventually, I am thinking of raising my shift points to 6800 RPM's for max effect my setup. I am quite sure you will be running a much faster time with your past skills. Good luck in your goals.

thanks guys I really wanted 11's with stock internals, but the weather got too bad for me to do that with a full-weight car and I'm not interested in stripping the car down. Some basic stuff won't hurt, though.
Kent - I'm glad to help. Feel free to e-mail me anytime ya have any questions.
Tim - The '02 version of LS1 Edit is now out for tuners, but it's still yet to be released to the public. I'm sure I'll eventually end up with it. I've already paid the reprogram fee to Ed Wright, so I'm going to get my money's worth. I would really like to take the car to him, but $600+ is out of the question.

Loco - You might have to follow the front if one more actually makes it through.

Well it's about damn time Go get you some 11.693s but just don't bust past 11.692 lol! On your 11.72 pass i can see your weight was holding you off from going into the 11.60s because my 11.72s were all in the 115 range because of the weight of my car. Well guess it's time for me to mod the car more (can't have you passing me up ).

Congrats Trevor on breaking into the 11's!
Your car sounds great going down the track, and looks just as good too!

I thought the track prep was about the same as SCD's prep. Weak. LOL
98% humidity didn't help the traction either, the humidity was so thick you could of cut it with a knife.
The best DA I recorded was around 1700' Oh well, it was fun!
Good seeing you again too.
Oh, and don't forget to post that video when you get it!

LOL Scott! I'm already anxious to see just how quick I can go with the car next fall. I just don't know if I'll still have the stock heads on then. I am planning on staying with stock heads for a while, but you know how that goes. hehe

Gordo! It was great to see ya again. You've spent some time in that car because you were damn sure driving it well! I agree that track prep wasn't the best, but it was damn good for a T&T night. You should've been out there last season for T&T. It was a joke. I'll post the video once I get it, no matter how bad it may be.

Coach - I'm sure there's someone crazier somewhere in this country that has an '02 and is a lot deeper into their car than I am. I do like how people are so shocked that it's an '02, though. They think it takes time or something to mod a car. When will your hotrod make its debut to dethrone me? Super Chevy sure would be nice!

Very nice ET in that weather. Some slightly negative DA and you'll see 11.5s.

Sniff. Brings a tear to my eye to see you running so fast with so few dollars spent. Those 2002s are really flying. Guess you don't miss the old TA too bad, haha. You're going to wind up KILLING the times of your old 383 stroker with a stock displacement motor, LOL!

Ragtop - I agree that there's still plenty to gain. It's nice to see it run low 11.7's with a FULL raceweight and low shift points. I only have faster to go.

wickedZ - It's somewhere around 160 miles to the Motorplex from Austin. It's not too bad, but River City Raceway would be much closer to you. www.rivercityracewayinc.com

Patrick - After all of the money that I poured into the T/A, it's nice to have a car that runs well with a LOT less money in it! I couldn't be happier with the performance of the car, and I'm definitely not missing the T/A! It will be amazing to watch my SS demolish my T/A's timeslips with a setup that is FAR more streetable than what I had in my T/A! Put in a good word for me with Judson on a set of heads.
