How High Is It Safe To Spin Motor??
I'm trying to get down my setup and where I'd like to cross the lights at RPM wise, so I need to know this.
car is a totally stock bottom end 346 LS1.
Wasn't sure where to put this post, so if its in the wrong section, sorry moderators <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I figured it was somewhere in the 6800-6900 range.
Anyone else got any input on this, things to watch out for, etc when high revving..
I'd would go no higher than 6800 rpms as well.
I'd run the oil a little over. LS1's have an oil system like the LT5, the oil first goes to the cylinder heads. So I like to run a bit over, as much as 1/2 a quart over. I don't think we are likely see any cavitation from running too much oil, plus with our factory pcv systems, you can end up using 1/2 a quart after 20 passes at the track.
I'd give serious consideration to running a heavier weight oil or a higher quality oil if you are trying to avoid needing to pull the motor at the end of the racing season.
Locally the motors that have come apart have had stretched rod bolts.
I am running 10w40, 1/2 over, and the car sees 6600 rpms every time I drive it.
