Default Weight Reduction because RACECAR

Just though I would throw this up...all items weighed on a digital scale accurate to .2lbs. TOTAL = 451.6 to date Car now weighs 3066#. I know where 40# more is...so 3026#.
Add back in the 67# for 8pt cage and ~20# for Kirkey seat and mounts brings her back to 3113#....Not to shabby for a heavy *** T/A with an iron 6.0 and S60

Now call Midwest Chassis and order the complete chrome moly setup with their spindles and lite weight Strange brakes and you should be in the 2800's. Lite weight rear brakes also. And get some lite rims too. And cut out every bracket that is no longer used. Manual brake master and manual rack. Get rid of all the wiring. Take out door crash bars. Glass hatch and hood, lexan windshield and hatch will even be more lite. Then if you really want to get seriously lite. Cut the front end up. But you will need a full cage with bars going to the front to weld the front shock towers to. Check out the sticky about weight reduction. Lots of good info.

Yeah, those are all "wallet mods" and I may start whittling away at those... one day. I thought I did pretty good with the free stuff! All unnecessary wires and brackets are out, still need to do door bars after cage install. That MWC chromoly 8pt. is light!

All that weight savings and you're running those heavy *** wheels?? Lol.

Thanks for the list, looks like I may keep AC for now and try to remove 30lbs else where.

I know, I didn't realize the Racestars were so heavy when I ordered (but did get a hellova deal). Actually the A/C + the under dash box and ducts are 57.5#

When you say under dash box you mean the blower motor assembly? If you remove that you lose heat too, right?

Yes and Yes. If you still drive on the street, I would recommend leaving it all!

Have you thought about removing the rear bumper support? I also see you removed the upper pan hard bar.. How does the car ride with it off? I heard that it's unsafe to remove the upper pan hard bar..

The rear bumper support is 20 of the 40# I mentioned above. This is a straight line car only. If it was a street car or built for handling, I would not remove it.

I was going to retain heat. I know it's a lot of weigh savings but I'm ready ready to go that full bore into a racecar. For the extra 30lbs. I might as well keep the A/C and look at other ways to save that weight. My goal is to be in the 3100 range with out me in it.

Can also remove the passenger side fan once AC is gone. It will cool fine with one.

How's the hood at speed after removing under hood bracing?
Friend of mine took all the bracing out from the hood and it flops around quite a bit at highway speeds and above.
Please share some pics of the underneath and how you went about it?

I run with mine removed for exhaust clearance and weight reduction. I dont take corners fast but realize its purpose is to support the very long and flimsy bracket on the passenger side. My solution was to make two small support pieces, to firm the bracket up some. This is just steel flat bar that I used a grinder to notch. Very simple to make then weld em in place.
