Spent the day (!) dieting

Spent the day (!) dieting I went picking through the car this weekend looking for things to remove that won't affect my streetability (much). Here is what I came up with:
AC (28#, not 40# like others say)
AIR pipes/solenoid (2#)
Wet N2O system (2#)
Pass side airbag (16#)
Pass side seatbelt (3#)
Pass side sun visor (1#)
Glove box (4#)
Driver side kick panel (4#)
Driver side radiator fan (4#)
Grand total: ~65#s.
It's getting harder and harder to remove weight on this car. I'd like to do carpet and back seat cushions, but I really like the way the car looks with both in. I don't want to part with my fan/heater either. I'm thinking side crash bars might be next (15#?).
One of my next "minor" mods is probably going to be larger headers, and a quiet exhaust setup that I can easily remove at the track. There is another 45# of weight there and maybe 5-10rwhp with the right set of headers. I need to get on a scale to verify, but doing the math my race weight should come down to 3320# now (with catback) with a mostly empty gas tank.

Re: Spent the day (!) dieting Hey terry, how much do you weigh?? I weighed my car yesterday and it came in at 3270 and you have more removed than me. I'm only 140 though so that could be where the differnce is.

Re: Spent the day (!) dieting I come in at 195 with my helmet, I'm going to get that down to 180 soon. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> I've removed a lot of weight, but I also have a 5-pt cage.

-front swaybar brackets
-cruise control box and cable
-front bumper support, washer fluid container
Nose looks like it sits up higher and the car weight transfers SOPT better.

I will remove most of the carpeting a la Chris Pippy mod, and some obvious stuff out back before I hit the track again.

Re: Spent the day (!) dieting John how much weight is the cruise control box/cable, 5#? Take long to remove? Try a Meziere electric water pump. It saves 8# and was worth a whole .1ths for me. Don't worry about a thermo, you don't need one. I even figured out how to hook it up to my heater box. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Re: Spent the day (!) dieting getting the door bars out SUCKS!!! about 6lbs each. ive done the passenger airbag, not quite sure how to compare it to that job. guess they are both just a major PITA in thier own way

Re: Spent the day (!) dieting Damn, you guys are hardcore. My all-out '67 Chevy II drag car tipped the scales at 3,240# with a big-block and me in it. Besides, writing the check for the SS is still fresh in my mind. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> With that said, I did shed 24# by pulling the backseat w/ belts. I left the bottom cushions in place, though.

Re: Spent the day (!) dieting I am planning on removing foglights and cruise/AIR pump, sway bar brackets as well. That will be around 12-14#s or so. I am scared of removing my front bumper supports after witnessing that terrible crash a couple of weeks ago.
I am also thinking about buying a lightweight battery for use at the track only as well. That will be another 16 pounds at least.
Dont forget about allt he plastic **** underneath the wheel wells as well. That is another 5 pounds I think. (Not the air dam of course)
Terry AC out with Compressor and bracket out comes in at 47#'s on my scale at home. Might want to recheck that number and make sure you have everything out of the car <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
One word of advice with the "backhalf" of the carpet mod. When you cut the carpet, cut it only under the seats. I tried to get creative and cut it up along by the center console but it doesnt look that good. I am going to get some velcro for the floor and underside of the carpet at that point to help secure it a little better. Otherwise it works really really well and the carpet, all back panels, front and back seats add up to about 100 pounds.

Re: Spent the day (!) dieting Terry I'm not removing my power sterring pump.I wanna be able to drive the car with it when I'm not racing so its staying on the car.I dont know if I'm gonna pull the air bag either.The more I think about it the more I realize all I wanna do is go 10's a couple times and then the car will be put back to a nice 3.73'd,3200 stalled,quiet exhaust'd,17in wheel'd,Drag radial'd street car.
11.50's is fast and I can alway put a 100 shot on the car down the road.
By the way I have ALL of my stereo in place.
Gotta have music...

I think it was 43 or 46lb's.

I weighed the condesnsor seperate..it weighed about 9 lbs then I weighed everything else in a garbage bag and that stuff cam in at close to 35.
