Thanks guys. Who makes a good one, is my next question. I've been looking at Coan, ATI, FTI, GearStar, and Rossler. Tell me what your running. Thanks again.

Anyone can build one but the cost comes with good service.

I would try calling Dynamic Transmissions while you're at it... give them a shot.

This is who you should be talking to being your in the Chicago area. Their trans is as good as any other builder. I have been around racing for over 40 years. This is who Anthony Manna uses in his Drag Radial Car. http://proformanceracingtransmissions.com/

^^ very cool. Did not know about those guys.

I vote FLT Level 7, but then again, I'm still running air conditioning so I'm a bit strange : ) I'm running Larry's old 396 and Level 7 combo, cracks 9's, cracks 1.2x in 3600# and we all know what Larry put it through. Doesn't miss a beat driving to and from Byron couple times a year so overdrive is still nice. You're trailering it though so I guess it would just be for simplicity.

Also factor in any "playing" you might do in the car. RMVB TH400 with a brake doesn't like to be pedaled in 1st or 2nd, so you need to be extra cautious on the street if traction is an issue. FWIW, Rossler TH400 here, love it!

Using a guy local enough to not have to ship the thing.... is always a win.

Yes. Actually my friend Larry Hamilton(Former Speed Inc shop manager) highly suggested them. And guess what, their only 15-20 minutes from me.

Joe I was ready to say go with their Level 7, but thought about my intended application.

I'm aware that if built for race application, it will usually have no engine braking, meaning it will freewheel all the way through the pass.
Rossler is another to consider, thanks.

FTI TH400 Level 4.5 with an UltraBell/300M input shaft/Billet alum direct drum, is also looking good as well!

A word of advise. If you get the ultrabell, make sure you get an SFI case as well. There is no room under a 4th gen for a shield. You could go ultrabell with a blanket but it is still a tight fit and the trans will run hotter. If you go standard case and bell the Kevlar one piece shields will fit in a 4th gen but they do not fit with a ultrabell.

Csr carbon shield most certainly will fit and it will fit over an ultra bell if you so choose...

Are you looking to go low 10's on motor, don't put money into a 4L60E.

ProFormance Dave Klaput is local, I'd go with him or Rodney at RPM.

Thanks for the info. Just seeing that the Ultra bell is a great option for the money.

Will definitely look into CSR carbon shield if I do opt for the UltraBell. Thanks

John, yes low 10's or better. I was considering FLT's top dog Level 7. It's what Chuck recommended at FLT.
I will be stopping by and talking with Dave at their shop in Woodstock this week.
