Default Found the limits of the stock TQ arm!

I went to the track tonight, trying to bust into the 11's. Well, maybe not 11's but at least low 12's.

I had 26x10.5x16 ET Streets on it, with some Weld Draglites on the front. It's a heads/cc306 car with a 6-speed, 12-bolt (4.11) and STOCK suspension with 106k on the ticker.

First pass out did a weak burnout, and launched at 4000. Car was kinda lazy off the line-didn't spin, but didn't bog either. Just kinda drove off the line.

60': 1.825
ET: 12.505
MPH: 111.19

Keep in mind my best times before today was on BFG Drag Radials and stock 10 bolt, which was a 1.836, 12.700, 112.53 (MPH was on a different run than the 60 and ET).

So I decided to do a much better burnout and launch her at 5000 rpm on my next run.

Well, I left the line at 5000, and It didn't even make it to the 60' mark. The car hooked HARD and bent my TQ arm like a taco about 2" in front of where it mounts to the rear!

I was so dissapointed that I couldn't make any more passes. I really wanted to get into the low 12's. I think it probably would have on that run if it would have made it.

I don't have any pics yet, but hopefully in the next week or two I will. The car is now at my chassis builder getting the full treatment!!

Just thought I would share my experience with you all! Best part of it all is that my buddy that works on the U.S. Army Top Fuel Car brought the team's H2 Hummer up with a trailer to haul it away! I took some pics of the car on the trailer, but it was dark, so I doubt they will turn out.

Old motors do make good HP.

Good luck with the new Tq arm. Are ya getting a roll bar also?

Yeah, my entire suspension is getting done and also a 10 point cage. I don't really need the full 10 points right now, but when my new combo is done I will!

First time I ran my car with slicks I twisted the stock driveshaft like a beer can and tore the stock torque arm off the 12-bolt. Just another excuse for more parts.

my stock tq arm took a ton of abuse, but i was hardly ever on anything more than a drag radial back then.

its strange how they are. my buddy with an a4 car that was cam only at the time busted like 3 of them randomly just drivinig to work, lol.

Well I am sure we will find out sooner or later, but we have put a whole bunch of 10.90's on ours so far, only problem was a bent torque arm mount, but we have since put a poly bushing on the front and straightened out the mount and have put a bunch more passes on it.

Cool Torque arm development

I did the proto and testing of the RANDOM Technology torque arm, and found that many of the stock arm failures were due to loose hardware on the axle hsg.
We have several lo 10 and 9 sec cars w/ the SUPERBITE kit on them, that are working well!!

Call Dave or Clay at Random. They'll give you the details...770-554-4242

I broke the stock 10 bolt leaving at 4000 rpms, the Edelbrock tq/a at 6000 rpms and the brm is holding up great with a few 6000 rpm dumps on it

Well, that wasn't the case on my car, because the bolts are still tight in the housing. I just found out that the TA's are different from the LT1's to the LS1's. Something like the early Lt1's are braced like the LS1's, but the later LT's are not braced. Mine is the latter. Go figure.

Oh well, my car is now the develpmental car for my chassis guy, who is going to develop a line of suspension componets with it.

i went 1.49 once and a bunch of low 1.51s one the stocker. MN6 trannys really shock the driveline though. and LT1 Tq arms are weaker.

What does your exhaust setup look like? What kind of DA? Those times seem kinda slow for what you have. My car had the same trapspeed with shorty's, stock gears, stock heads and 145k on it. I would think you would be in the 118 area.

Well, the DA was about 2800-3000ft. I have Hooker LT's, Mufflex 3" y-pipe, and a Corsa cat-back. There is no way I would be close to 118 mph. THe car makes 351 to the wheels. It is also still pretty heavy. 3600 with me in it.

Actually, I just went back and looked at my data, the DA was at 3277 ft. on my 12.50 run.
