Default First time with turbo and th400 advice and any guesses on what I should run?

So I swapped my M6 out with a th400 so I can actually run decent rack times. I am not familiar at all with running a th400 at the track, especially with big turbo on it so if anyone has any advice for me to not do something dumb or die I would appreciate it. My car has a forged 408 with TEA 245 heads, ls6 intake, ID1700s on E85, Borg Warner S480 on 20 pounds, FTI th400 and trans brake with 10 inch converter (4000 stall), Moser 12 bolt, 17 x 4.5 Alumastar 2.0 in front and 15 x 10 Welds in back with 275/60/15 ET Street R. How should I go about doing burnouts and that kind of thing and launching off of the foot brake? I won't launch on the trans brake until I am used to it. Any pointers really at all would be great.

Also what should this set up run in a pretty much full weight f body? Car made 935 rwhp with the M6 but hasn't been dynoed with the th400.

Yep, start the burn out in 2nd and quickly shift to 3rd. Go ahead and do use the trans brake. You won't ever leave off the foot brake again lol

Do you just floor the accelerator on the trans brake?

Yep I have a two step that I can set my launch rpm. If you don't have one, the rpms will sit at what ever your converter stalls at

Ok thanks. I am trying to not destroy anything and not kill myself this first time. I think I can make a respectable run out of it my first time.

Read this post. It gives you all the info on how and why.

https://www.yellowbullet.com/forum/s...d.php?t=120213

If you do not have a two step, you will more than likely blow the tires off when you release the t-brake. If I were in your shoes, I would footbrake it a couple of passes to get a feel for it then start using the t-brake to build boost off the line for your best 60ft. You might have to play with your two step (or if you do not have a two step you can part throttle on the t-brake to get a lower boost/rpm launch).

You will be surprised at how much quicker you will be in the quarter.

Good Luck and let us know how it does.

I do not have a 2 step and was definitely going to foot brake it a few times to get used to it. The whole reason I did the 400 swap was because I didn't like the lackluster ETs I was getting out of the car, I am hoping this puts me at least in the 9s and hopefully mid to lower 9s.

That is what I have been told but I am so skeptical I can't make myself believe it will go that fast.

You didn't say what valve body, so assuming you have a RMVB without engine braking or fancy options like clean neutral:

Do not do a 1-2 or 1-2-3 burnout. Start in high gear if possible, or do a 2-3 and ease off when tires begin to hook. At the end of the run stay in high gear and do not shift into neutral. Downshift only under your converter's stall speed and under light throttle.

Yeah it is an RMVB with no engine braking. I am definitely not going to downshift until I get past the turn off and get my speed way down, don't want to hurt this new trans.

Why dont you guys start your burn outs in 1st? I don't have a TH400 yet so sorry if it seems like a stupid question.

Something to do with the sprag not being able to handle the shift from 1st to 2nd but I don't know the exact details of it.

It really depends upon the parts used as there are so many different ways to setup a TH400. But for most builds, first gear only burnouts don't generate enough tire heat, and the 1-2 shift can explode the intermediate sprag.
