Default What do you think about a 9inch slick?

I will need a new set of racing slicks in the next couple of weeks. I have 84 runs on the goodyears as of now. In the next two weekends I will I over a 100 runs on these bad boys. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

So I was thinking and talking to Pops this morning about a 28x9x15 goodyear slick. I know that the contact patch is smaller but a 9inch slick is what the Stock Elim guys run. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />

I have had M/T 28x10.5x15 and Goodyear 28x10x15 on the Hot Rod now. I was just wondering what this size of tire will do.(28x9x15 slick) <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

1. Has anyone run the a 9inch slick?
2. Well it help me or hurt me?
3. anything else?

I will use these new slick for the rest of the racing season(untill the mid of Nov.) and go with 30x9x15 with 5.13 gears next racing season(1st of March) <img border="0" alt="[devil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />

So, What do you guys/gals think?

Do the 30's and the gears now <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I think the 9" wide should be fine but i have never ran them.

I ran some MT 28x915's last year. They fit perfect on a 15x8 rim but would be too narrow for a 15x10 rim, which do you have?

Here is a pic of that setup:
https://ls1tech.com/moderators/psj/dragula.bg5.jpg

They also are only about 27.3" tall FWIW.

I dead hooked on them.

zturbo,

I would do it now but, I do not want the Hot Rod down at all, it is "Drag Racing Season" <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />

Pro Stock John,

I talked to the goodyear rep today and he said that the 28x9x15 would work just fine on the 10 inch rim. I also looked on www.summitracing.com and www.jegs.com and they both said that a 28x9x15 would fit on a 10 inch rim. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

If they will not work than a 30x9x15 will not work either. Do I need to get some 15x8 rims?
I think that I need to investigate this further. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

I sure do like the fact that you dead hooked on the 28x9x15 slicks. <img border="0" alt="[devil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />

I run the 28X9 and truthfully the contact patch is fine. They hook for sure and I would run them in a second.

Coach, I ran them and never got them to hook consistantly. I think with the way you hit the tires with the 6 speed you will have the same problem. I would stick with the 10"..thats what i have now. 28x10x15 hoosers. First trip down the track they hooked so hard that it snaped my output shaft off in my tranny. I would just spin the 28x9s with the same suspension setup. Also if you do get them too hook you would prolly kill the tire faster because of how much they would have to work to get the car out of the hole. Just my .02.

I just want to know how the Stock Elim. guys run 10's on a 9 inch slick? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

I know that they spin the crap out of them(motors), but they still have to hook up. The air that they get is just mad. <img border="0" alt="[devil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />

I think that Stock Elim. might be right up my alley. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />

Well its an illusion.
They run a fairly light car will LOTS of gear and BIG *** VERTERS...

Not mention most of them SE guys are very smart at chassis tuning.I have a new adj sway bar that I'm gonna be trying out in the fall thats on a SE car in my local area. The car 60fts in the 1.33 range which is sick.

But again its got 5000+ stall and a LOW gear in the rear w/a smart chassis tuner.

I think alot of them run 30X9 not 28X9 but I could be wrong coach.I know one thing a 8in wheel and a 28X9 is a great tire rim setup and one that works on my car...

JS,

Yes Sir, most of them run a 30x9x15 slick with a 5.13 gear. I will have this next racing season.(March 03). <img border="0" alt="[devil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />

There are not very many stick Hot Rods in SE anymore. I think that it would be way cool to have a 2002 Z28 M6 "LS1 member" Stock Elim Hot Rod. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />

I was just thinking about getting some data with the 9 inch tire. What could it hurt? Just wanted to know if anyone else has run this set up. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

Thanks for the info. <img border="0" alt="[hail]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_hail.gif" />

JS, good luck to ya and good night.(I have to race tomorrow and Sunday)!

Later,
Coach

coach..the hit from an auto is much softer than the hit from droping a clutch. But I know you know that. The are converter cars and they run pretty agressive suspension setups too. Pete Z bars are on most of those cars. Basically turnes your suspenison into a form of a 4 link. Thats what I'm running now and also what helped give me the traction to snapped my tranny. If I could make this thing stay in one peice I think low 1.4x would come around. This is alos the setup that is on the SAM car. 1.3x with a manual. Its very agressive and streetability is very iffy now. Even with my hals on 0 its TIGHT back there. If I want to do much street cruising I would have to unhook the upper bar on them then it would be ok. But I'm also gonna run a 28" et street so it should help soften up the ride alittle. I did get them to hook some before they totally went away on me. Best 60' on them before the Z bars was a boggin 1.55. Prolly the only dead hook I ever got out of them. The rest were spinning high 1.5s..even when brand new. Who knows..you may be able to make them work and the goodyears are prolly a better hooking tire too...so you may be able to use them.

No doubt 95....
I know the stick cars are a different animal.

I truely believe the coach can hook on a 9in slick if the car is set up correctly.

I wish the both of u alot of luck in your pursuit of the obsession <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Not to throw another thing into this but has anyone tried out the radial 30x9's (think hoosier and goodyear make them not sure about mt) on here? I think they are for auto cars and have heard that they give you a few more mph. I was thinking about them but wanted a wider tire under my car.
