For 8.50 and under are you required to secure the seat to the cross bar/harness brace behind the seats or does the NHRA rule only apply to fixed back seats? Could one just get these seats with 5 point harnesses that have the harnesses properly secured to the cross bar and be legal for 8.50 and higher without securing the actual seat back to the cross bar?
Per NHRA tech, you must secure any aftermarket seat to the cross bar, FIA approved or not. And adjustable mount between the seat and crossbar is permitted.
