Default Fuel Tank and Wolfe Weld in Roll Bar?

Is it necessary to drop the fuel tank on an 02 Z28 to do this install? I am going to be getting it installed on wednesday and i told my welder if that is the case then i will come and drop it myself. He quoted me 400$ and told me it would take about 6-8 hours. So is it necessary and if so how easy is it to drop the tank?

To be safe you should drop the tank.

We recommend you drop the tank down. The fuel lines run very close to the floor above the tank. If any part of the fuel line is touching the floor where you weld you will melt the lines. Also things can drip when welding. IF anything hot drips on the lines they will melt. We recommend you drop the tank down and put a shield over the fuel lines to prevent anything from dripping on them.

It is much easier to drop the tanks some and protect the fuel lines then have to replace them if anything happens. Plus, i don't know anyone that would feel comfortable welding on the floor directly above the fuel tank when still mounted.

if you got the one with the bars that go over the seats to the floor above the tank yeah you'll have to for sure.

my wolfe is the normal on that has the rear bars through the speakers so we didn't drop it.

Has this guy done an install on an f-body before? If you stay and watch him, you will realize that it was $400 well spent.

If he is an ambidextrous midget, he will have no problem.

I loosened the tank enough to let it drop about 2" (rested on rearend) and then put a SOAKING wet towel on top of the tank.

I didn't drop my tank and ended up catching it on fire

I would suggest dropping it when welding the plates to the rear floor board.
