Default Rear impact bar metal or glass

Can anyone tell me if this is metal or fiberglass? Not the honey comb the bar that would be behind that. My car never had one and I'm trying to replace it but the yard is telling me it fiber glass, seem useless for protecting the gas tank.

I'm guessing your asking about a F- body camaro because I never saw one on a 72 chevelle before. So if it is a F-body. There is a steel piece of stamped tubing the honeycomb bolts to. I have the front and back complete if your interested PM me. The ones I have are for a 93-97 camaro.

I bought the rear off of eBay but he sent me the front by mistake. I got a free front bar but the back he has is in fiberglass. I don't know if 98-02 they switched to fiberglass or if it's a fluke. I don't want to argue with them as they are being decent with me. I will keep you in mind though. Can anyone else verify if the switched to fiberglass?

I know all the drag racer pull these I street drive to much.

My 99s rear impact absorber is a plastic or SMC material. SMC is often referred to as fiberglass

I just removed my catback yesterday. I was coincidentally enough checking out the very thing you might be talking about and I too was a bit surprised I didn't see metal back there. Granted I didn't spend much time poking around since that isn't what I was working on but I'll get back under there today and check it out closer. I'll take a pic of what I'm talking about.

Looks like what I have from the junk yard. Still surprising that there's not much between the rear and the gas tank.
Thank you
