Top end in 5th would = top end in 4th w/ 3.42's.
Just be shifting into 5 at about 90 mph.

In a 4 series carrier you can get as high numerically as 6.14's
They have.. 5.14, 5.38, 5.57, 5.75, 5.86 and 6.14's (these numbers were taken from my mark williams catalog.

I have 5.14's in my Hot Rod now and I shift into 4th gear at the MPH marker in the 1/8 mile. I run any where from 7.15 to 7.20 ET'S at 96 MPH to 95 MPH in the 1/8 mile with the 30x9x15 slicks.
I have yet to run the Hot Rod in the 1/4 mile with the new gear and slick combo.
This weekends racing will be 1/8 mile again and next weekend I will be running at RCR but it will be a very big 1/8 mile race instead of 1/4 mile. I will try and get some 1/4 mile in a couple of weeks.

Big step down, I know, but if I'm gonna get gears (not likely), I'm going all out.
I just figured it would be a good subject to throw around.

It's not the rpm drop that really hits me (though it would be significant). Instead, it is the physical problems associated with powershifting 5th gear. I'm not real familier with the T56, but I assume 5th gear is on a different driven shaft than 1-4, thus making it very hard to powershift....if it is possible at all.

Powershifting 5th vs quick shifting isnt going to improve the time that much. The improved 60ft time will be much more important.
