Default Need help with 60'ft's...... On stock tires

Well I went to the track yesterday. First time ever since I mostly autocross. I was thinking that the car was a 13.5 sec car but I pulled 13.3's @ 108 with 2.2-2.3 60's Now I was thinking that the car would runa 13.5 @ 105 with 2.0-2.1's but when I ran a 13.3 @ 107 to start off with a 2.2 I was thinking man I get this thing hooked up it's a 13.0-12.99 car!

I ran 23psi then down to 18psi, didn't help. I was slipping the clutch and tires slightly from 3000rpms.

So what can I do to get a 2.0 - 2.1 on street tires? (17" 275/40 Bridgeston RE730's)

I'd like to run a 13.00 @ 108 when I can get this thing to hook up.

I need techniques and drivning tips, right now Drag Radials are not part of the equation. Maybe disconnecting the front bar, or other little things but $500 is not going to happen. $100 maybe!

Bret

It's on you to learn how best to launch the car. My advice is to bring the tires back to the manufacturers recommended pressure and start over. Doing so will allow the largest "footprint" of rubber on the ground. This applies to radial tires. Letting air out causes the tires to bow in the center, losing traction.

thanks for the inflation info, but I was looking for launch advice too. Like what other people here find that works.

It's funny on the autocross side people are alot more open. Belive me you don;t have to worry about racing me I sleep at the tree getting like 1 sec reaction times.

You might already have the right way of doing it. My best ever 60ft was a tie- once at Bristol raceway I got a 1.90 bone stock with stock 275 Firehawks, everything hooked up{swaybars ect.}
Then I got a 1.90 at Silver Dollar RW. Then I was running 275 BFG DRs, no front sway bar. Could have done a little better with a better clutch as when I fully released the clutch it slipped rather than spinning the tires a smidge.
I average 1.95s to 2.00s at those two tracks, when I run at Commerce my 60fts go in the ******* with averages of 2.05s.
I think you have already figured it out. With street tires I think the best way to launch is slipping the clutch. I've tried popping the clutch at various revs and I can't seem to get that perfect spot. Too little and it spins a few feet, hooks, then bogs. Too much rpm and it spins bad. I just floor the throttle and let out the clutch at the same time. I don't finish releasing it till about halfway through 1st depending on traction. With good traction, the best I can describe it- Let out the clutch just as you would when sedately pulling away from a stoplight when you are right beside a cop, except you will have it at full throttle. Best I could do for you

run the tires at about 32psi, remove front
sway bar....go around water. Do a 3-4 second
burnout and preload the clutch(ie don't have it
right on the floor..ease it up very slowly until
you feel the car load)

Ride the clutch out real fast at the same time
you are flooring it.

If you get a 2.00 or better, 12s are yours...the
mph is there. Getting it between a burn and a
bog takes some practice.

Goodluck.

I have so many people telling me that 12's are right there. I wish this was as easy for me as autocross, first time there when out and won overall.

Oh well

On radials; make sure you run about 32#'s of pressure as stated above. Running less doesn't help. I got my best 60' of 2.02 on 245 RE730's by launching at 2100 RPM and letting out the clutch fast not side stepping it, while rolling into the gas. I know, clear as mud. Honestly, the best thing to do is get a lot of tree time and figure out what works best for you and your car. Everybody has their own way. I think drag radials would be the ticket. Good luck.

Sometimes no matter how hard you try, you can't get a good 60 foot because of track prep.
