Default Track results from today (Cayuga)

Well today was a mixed bag for me.

First it poured out of the bejesus heavens for the whole ride down. So much for the car staying clean.

Second they didnt start elims till the rain stopped at around 12:00.

The OSC had an event there today and traction was awesome <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Saw a lot of 7-9 second cars out.

I had a mixed day performance wise.

I am having a problem with my car literally cutting out (read stalling) altogether after the launch if I launch at more than ~2500-3000rpm. The dash lights up, the radio, trip meter and clock reset and the goddamn CD pops out of the changer. The car stutters at around 3500-4000rpm and dies altogether)

I think I have a broken ground somewhere in the car killing ALL power to the PCM on a hard launch.

Anyways weather was ~82 degrees, Cross-tailwind, 70-100% humidity (depending if it was sprinkling on us hehehe), and baro of 29.92. Density Altitude of 2534 feet.

Here is my best pass with an off idle launch <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

Rt: .559
60: 1.894
330: 5.227
1/8: 7.889
mph: 94.51
1K: 10.149
1/4: 12.036
mph: 120.76

I am happy with the mph the car is making but I HAVE to figure WTF is going on at launch. The car literally stalled about 60 feet out on two passes. On another pass it was like hitting a ******* rev limiter with the dash lit up, CD spitting out, clock, trip meter resetting. I was going insane...

Once I get the cutting out issue fixed, the clutch/adj master in and DS in the car.
1.5 sixties and ~11.3-11.5@122-123mph in good weather will be cake.

Wade from ARE ran a couple of smoking times too in their Z-28. I will let him post later :-D

Oh yeah, I weighed the car with me in it and was surprised how light it is <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

3375 with my 200 pound carcass in the car and between 1/4 and 1/2 tank of gas <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Weight out: back half of carpet, AC, front pass seat, rear seats, jack and spare, EGR, AIR, Cruise, AC, foglights, and swaybar on stock rear wheels and warrior skinnies up front.

This is with the added weight of the 12 bolt too. ABS, radio, airbags and bumper supports etc are all still in the car.

Should have no problem getting in the 3300 range when I put in the hawker battery, pin on hood, and !front bumper support.
Cheers,
Chris

Check the grounds on the back of the drivers side head. Also any electronics you have grounded inside the car.

Not bad considering the situation. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Chris, how is that Hawker battery secured in the car? I had those exact same symptoms awhile back. Turned out that where I have my big battery cable attached to the stock cables had worn through the insulation, and on a hard launch was actually grounding itself to the shock tower.

Make sure your battery isn't moving around and doing something similar.

George,

I am, running a bone stock battery. The hawker and the glass hood are going on sometime this winter. My battery is the original battery in the car (5 years old and 50K miles).

Maybe something is going on with it. It certainly is strange that it turns up only on a hard launch and not a soft one.

One of the guys said my left front tire was ~5 inches in the air on one launch and then the car came crashing down, sputtered and died LOL! I thought a I broke a DS on that run. Looked under the car and everything was perfect. Turned the key, started right up and drove down the track.

Would have been an easy low 1.6 sixty and probably 11.6 had the car not died. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />

The stock clutch held up pretty good for the day.

It only slipped half badly on the 3-4 shift.
I am going to go over the car with a fine tooth comb tomorrow and check all grounds.

Thanks again for your help and keep the suggestions coming <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Chris

Your stock battery is falling back and shorting on the AC canister. Get a new stock battery mount. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

I'm with Terry... If the battery hold down tab is broken, it will fall back and short out on the shock tower. Grab the battery and see if you can rock it back towards the shock tower. If so, there's your culprit. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Thanks Vince <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Hopefully I can get this problem fixed quickly and back to the track in a week or so. I really want to run a decent number before the winter. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
cheers,
Chris

That was the fu@king problem the whole time!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />

I went out to the car and sure enough I can move the battery around. How in Gods name does that tab break??? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />

You can see the marks in the tower where the battery fell against it. (I even tried it and sparks went everywhere LOL)

THANKS SO MUCH guys, I CANT WAIT to hit the track again now with the new clutch and DS in a couple of weeks!!

1.5 sixties and low-mid 11's@122mph Here I come!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Chris

Thanks John <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
I am looking forward to some passes with the new clutch setup. I have never been able to hook this car to its potential. With the new clutch, master, HD DS, and DS loop I "should" be able to launch at 5500rpm no problem. There is over half a second left in the combo easily.
Cheers,
Chris
