Default Scattershield Bellhousing Interest

How many people are interested in a titanium bellhousing group purchase. If we can get 5+ people together, we can get them built for about $3500.00 per copy which includes the tooling fees. I have spoken with Lakewood, and "if" they ever build them, it will be at least another year <img border="0" alt="[Banging Head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" /> . Please let me know ASAP so that I can get this rolling.

Thanks,
Mike

<img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> $3500 bellhousing <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

Suddenly, my $12K motor seems like a hell of a value <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

How about just some inexpensive, certified bellhousings?

That would be great if McLeod offers one, but when are the y going to release theres. At this time, the titanium unit may be the only game in town and yes the $$$$$$$ is crazy for us folks, but to be ahead of the game, that may be what it takes plus the fact that the weight would be less than 1/2 the weight of the steel unit.

$3500 is a huge extreme though. You can get a strap-on tranny blanket for about $100 that will offer the same level of protection. All of the 6-speed owners are still using the stock aluminum bellhousing right now, and I've not heard of anyone blowing a clutch/flywheel in an LS1 f-body yet.

also take note in the following excerpt from NHRA rulebook <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Titanium flywheel shields are only permitted in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, Top Alcohol Dragster, and Top Alcohol Funny Car. </font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Last time I checked, I don't think we fit in any of those categories <img border="0" alt="[devil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />

I agree with what is being said as I have not heard of any failures in F-Body cars, however, have in the C-5 on a couple vehicles. Many people I have spoken with are against the blanket for whatever reason. I also am awair of the NHRA Rulebook issue, but I believe that is based on a $$$$ issue (trying to keep the cost of the class down). I have seen many of the comp cars and lower index E.T. classes (7.90 & 8.90)using the titanium bellhousings so they are aparently not very strict on that rule. I am not at all argueing, just trying too see if anyone is willing to spend the big $$$$ to have a trick lightweight bellhousing available very soon. BTW, spoke with George at McLeod (long time friend) and it will probably be after the 1st of the year before there bellhousing becomes available.

$3500.00???
Did you say $3500.00??? <img border="0" alt="[jester]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" />

Would this titainium bellhousing even be SFI
certified?

Hmmmmmmmmmm, just why did the powers that be decide to make it out of expensive titainium?
Why not make it out of regular ol' steel(SFI Certified) then the masses could afford it.

Sure the weight savings on the titainium unit is great, and it's definetly trick, but $3500.00 for about a 20-25lb. weight savings compared to a steel SFI rated scattershield? Nope, not worth it, not even to me.

I'll just wait for McLeod to release their unit,
then install a lightweight hood to help offset the extra weight of the scattershield.

Wait a second.... do ya'll need a test vehicle? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

When the cheaper steel ones come out let us know. Until then I don't think there is a single LS1Tech member that is $3000-3500 desperate to save 20 lbs (not even me and I'm about as hardcore as it gets in the weight reduction department around here.) There are many far cheaper ways to do so.

As far as being track legal, a blanket will do that, right? And I haven't heard of any LS1 being kicked off a track for not having an SFI bellhousing.

What I'm saying is that if profit is the idea, titanium is a terrible idea. Just trying to help. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Colonel, this has nothing to do with profit. This is strictly being done by myself alone by contacting the people I know in the industry. It has "0" to do with The company (Centerforce Clutches, Division of Midway Industries). I was looking to help our group of F-Body owners nothing else. Thanks for your input.

You missed Colonel's point. He is saying that if you build us an affordable SFI bellhousing, you stand to gain a fortune in profit. That would be a GREAT idea. The custom titanium $3000 one is a poor idea.

I did not miss the point, I nor Centerforce are building this product. Apollo Trick Titanium is building the item. Since I have contact via this forum to see how much interest people may have in such a item. If knowone is interested or wants to spend the $$$$$$$$$ they will not build anything.
Again, I am just trying to see if anyone is interested in such a item. I have nothing to do with selling or manufacturing them, just trying to get a consensus of those who might be interested.

I just went throught the NHRA rulebook (General Regs, 2:6 and 2:9), and I can find nothing about a blanket being legal with a clutch-equipped car - only for automatics.

Take that for whatever it may be worth.

I think it's too pricey of a solution and it's not going to come together, just my two cents.

YES, this would carry the 6.3 SFI Certification. The manufacturer (Apollo Trick Titanium) only builds bellhousings from titanium, so we do not have a steel option which would make it much more affordable. If we can get 5-6 people interested, the tooling charge would be waved which would drop the price to approximately $3000.00 per copy.
I am not making $.02 on these, just trying to coordinate getting us enthusiasts and front running performers some SFI Certified pieces to run at the tracks which require the safety items. Cost is certainly an issue for us all, but if we can't get the inexpensive, we may have to resort to the big $$$$$ items. Later down the road, the other manufacturers will come out with the inexpensive pieces for the mass of people. I myself do not want to wait any longer and just interested to see if anyone else is ready to do the same.
