Default Another Shootout in the spring???? Maybe at Steele Al.....

If there was another Shootout.... Do you think Steele, Al. would be a good location???

I know some of you have differing opinions as to the rules so let me hear them.

Also do you think Mustangs should be allowed???

An F-body?Mustang Shootout?????

It would take some thinking to level the playing field but I think it could be done.

With the turnouts we've had at the Mustang/F-body gatherings in the past I think we could get a crowd.

1st - the more central the location, the better for us up north

2nd - I have never had a problem with Mustangs...the serious racers are cool no matter what they drive

3rd - There are a number if us guys in Ohio that want to play in these things, but you guys are just too far south for us!

We recently had an impromptu F-Body/Mustang shoot out at Toronto Motorsports Park. The event was set up two weeks in advance and it was a straight heads up shoot out. It was a ton of fun and about 60 cars showed up from both side (pretty even split). It was a fantastic turn considering there were no rules and two guys pulled it together starting out as a challenge.

Both clubs will likley make it an official event for next year and we expect a huge turn out. The track has even offered to make it an exclusive evnt.

These things can be a ton of fun and everyone usually has a great time.

If you set up an event centrally like this I'm sure you will have an excellent turn out.

i will say it again. Heartland Park Topeka is directly in the middle of the country and is a top notch NHRA track.

food for thought.

Hey Joe, I think any of those locations would be good. Mustangs have enough races to attend though. I think it should be all f-bodys. Mustangs have Fun Ford and NMRA. Those are big.
Just my two cents.

Thanks

Joe, Tori says Steele would work for our family. How about as the February date?

Montgomery is a FAR better track. I'd feel alot more comfortable trying to stop from 145 MPH there.

Add Mustangs? Sounds good to me. I sure wish they'd have shown up for the MMRA event.

Rule changes? Hmmm...no weight restrictions for the fastest classes?

I'm there like white on rice. It's such a tragedy that I'm going to have to miss the Thunder shootout. One request is that we have it EARLY in the spring so that we can get some decently cool temps. How's the altitude in Steele or Montgomery?

Mustangs or no, it's cool with me. Rule changes: I would say allow exhaust to exit before the rear wheels. In the Thunder shootout, are they allowing cutouts? If so, that would exit before the rear wheels, usually. No problem with the weight minimum, but certainly wouldn't mind having it removed or lowered!

Hope ya'll can get some things going!

I think it needs to come a little north also. And the spring will give me enough time to dial this thiing back in and get it legal.

I think a rule change for the 2 top classes would be to give a weight break to us 346 guys going after the superstrokers. I'd have no problem with my featherweight playing with the 4xx guys but only if I'm lighter than them

I think it would be a blast and I agree it would be nicer to have it further north but would probably still come down.

Id REALLY like it because Im not even sure I will be able to make it to the Thunder SHootout. I havent even been able to get my car to the track yet!

Sounds good to me.

Rule changes?? HMMM I hate to bring this one up Joe but, W tires should be allowed in the 2 big wide open classes. I don't see this one to be such a biggie.

When I set my car up for bracket racing, I will probably run the W tires eventually.

I would attend anyway, no matter WHAT tire was required. Like I said, it's NO biggie.

Just my 2 cents

I'd have to agree that we need to move it north a little (without sacrificing too much elevation!) for our Yankee brothers. It may seem hard to believe, but Northerners are human beings too, just like you and I!

Alabama sounds good to me too... Hell, I'm towing 12 hours or so for this one.

Rules? Maybe a weight break for the smaller motored guys. I also like Tom's suggestion of allowing a "W" tire. I would hate to have to have a set of non-W tires just for one event, since I may go to a bigger tire as well...

I agree with George on the small cube cars getting a weight break. I know its not something up for debate at the Thunder Shootout this time around but in future shootouts, it could allow more people to be competitive.

PS... If Billy Glidden can run 7.80's on true 10.5s
I'm sure they hold anything coming to one of our races.
