i'll say this alittle simpler for those who dont re ..

99% of the time, if you see a fast SINGLE turbo supra, it started out life as a tt (Twin Turbo <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" /> ). The owner removed those stock twins, and puts on a bigger single in there place.

The other 1% are NA supra's with a aftermarket turbo kit bolted on. THe motors in those cars are weaker than the motors in the factory tt cars. Thus, they cant run alot of boost without doing some expensive rebuild work. At that point of time, its more cost effective to just buy a factory TT.

and that, 'tudd's' is how your wrong.

Well, the NA Supra engine may be slightly weaker, but I haven't found that to be the case yet. My car is one of the 1% (NA-T), I've ran 32psi of boost, and also ran a 90 shot along with 27psi of boost. The car has made 602rwhp (so far)through a unlocked converter. Not weak sauce by most standards.

I know the feeling, here in maryland there are a few supras that have 600+rwhp and one guy runs 11.8s @ 134 another guy has considerably more rwhp and runs low 11's. My 545rwhp c5 will lay the smack down on their cars anyday on BFG drag radials and pump gas, I'd say go for it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

The biggest difference in the N/A Supra short block (2JZ-GE) and the Turbo short block (2JZ-GTE), is that the N/A motor has higher compression (10:1 vs 8.5:1).

Internally, the N/A short block is every bit as strong as the Turbo short block.

Dave H- how low did your head gasket get the compression down to?

curious, do they both use the same rod lenght and just different pistons or what?

I think it's just different pistons, but I'm not positive. The 3mm head gasket is said to drop compression from 10:1 to 8.7:1

wow.......and it doesnt sacrafice reliability by just using the gasket to drop the cr?

btw, just after you said that, i caught an article on toyomoto's 550rwhp single turbo'd 2jzge...using the same headgasket...pretty cool..
