like an earlier post said, its comparing apples to oranges.....a completly built SBC vs a LS1. i congratulate madman for running such a fast time in a "stock suspended" camaro with a SBC in it, but to call out ARE's LS1 is not exactly a fair challenge. like asking a heads cam car to race a stroker/heads/cam car. not saying that ARE's car is not a stroker with heads and cam, but ARE is staying within the boundries of the LS1 arena. if madman had a ls1 and wanted to challenge another LS1, hey, thats great, but he doesnt. he has a completely build SBC and so he doesnt have to abide by the same rules as ARE has. get an LS1 and then your challenge to ARE might be more respectable, otherwise its still apples to oranges.

how is his SBC car an unfair comparison to an LS1 car? if im not mistaken the LS1 blocks are a little under 100lbs lighter than madman's block, the heads are both 15*, and his motor has less displacement than most of the big dog LS1s. and in the same thread i see people saying its unfair to compare them, but yet saying his motor is outdated lame technology. tell me how unfair it is when Colonel's new motor hits the track soon and runs quicker NA numbers than Madman's SBC. i beleive the reason he went to an aftermarket block SBC was for reliability so he could test the limits of his suspension components while not having to worry about the limits of the motor.

as for Madman's comments tonight, didnt he make mention before that he was going to be taking alot of beer to the track today <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

btw, why is everybody arguing about what motor is in the car anyways? hell, he only went 1mph faster than the ARE car. that sounds like apples to apples to me. whats impressive is the fact that he managed to go 2 tenths quicker and pull a 1.28 60'.

This is hilarious. Im about to post this thread on some Mustang boards so they can come over and LAUGH AT US!

If you saw them going back and forth and saying stuff like "Yeah but its a windsor not a modular motor" they would be laughed out of the mustang racing world.

Get my point yet?

The biggest thing I don't understand people saying MADMAN's a fully built SBC but ARE's is just an LS1. Yes MADMAN's is fully built, but a fully sleeved, stroker motor, built to take that kind of shot of nitrous isn't fully built? Whatever. This is what I knew would happen as soon an LS1 car got this record and then when someone else came along and destroyed the LS1 car every stupid reason on why it got beat would come up. Its this, its that, its more of this. This in my thoughts is complete BS. Lets say job well done and then ask whos going to step up and run the number that it will take to beat MADMAN. Granted hes been alittle cocky and kind of a dick about it. But who cares, he can talk the smack and back it up. If you can talk it and back it up then by all means talk it and then back it up for the people who don't think you can do it. Who cares what powers the damn thing, its a stock type suspension car that run damn near mid-8's. Its a step forward for our cars in the quest to make them faster. Keep doing what you are doing MADMAN, the nay-sayers will always be there, because they can't go as fast or they are getting beat by old-school tech.

Congrats MADMAN on the record and heres to keeping it. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

I think this could be the reason why f-body racing will never be able to become something big. I agree with the above post 100%. In stead of all this bickering everyone needs to step up and RACE. Madman did...and the results were awesome..I would venture to say there is more in this car..8.5s on a stock style f-body suspension?

Great job madman and it was a blast to see the car go down the track.

I think all the ls1 guys are behind on the crap that are gave Madman when his carbed lt1 car was faster than mandmans fuel injected lt1 car. This rivalry has been going on for a while guys. Madman went to race him in a real race and not timeslip race several times but they never showed.

please keep in mind that his only goal is stock suspension.. no other constraints like the ls1 block heads intake etc.

old school sbc's are cabable of much more power, than ls1's so far.. its not like there is anything fancy in that motor you can get them up to like 1500 hp or so and he's around what 800ish?

what he built is probably just enough for the suspension as it is.

good job.

I am not even going to try to stay in the SBC vs. LS1, LT1 stuff ... I guess this was an F-body EFI shootout, so ..... it also depends on the parties involved, if it is personal then it doesn't matter what you run, just build it and line them up.

Okay Ive come off pretty tough but man some of us have a passion for this stuff and its great to see some cars going fast like this! Gives those of us trying to support the heads up f-body thing something to brag about. ANd to see people slapping him down a little. well I hate seeing it.

have a nice evening fellas. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

It's obvious that Brian's car is insanely fast, and that he knows how to build fast cars, but, as has already been eluded to, this is not a professional way for a site sponsor to conduct himself. ARE clearly stated a few days ago that they wouldn't be able to make the almost pointless (for them) 1400-mile trip. The car is fast, but there's no need to attack another sponsor, simply because he was the first to the 8's.

This is exactly why I was laughing in the other thread...everyone wants to bitch about apples and oranges but all I see is 2 FULLY BUILT cars making the same amount of power....big freakin dealio if one isn't an LS1...again, when Colonel comes out w/the C5R car are ya'll all gonna bash him. Brians happy he brought the record back to Houston..he's never bashed ARE...if ya'll would READ the entire threads instead of 1 or 2 posts before letting your mouths run amuk like some 2yr olds you'd see there's no bad feelings between MM and ARE...it's called **** TALK!! This was a racing forum last time I checked....then again I get hit on the head alot from the misses. MM called out ARE to have some fun...Wade and those guys never took offense to it (See my other post) and it's all laughs...

Name the top fastest LS1's...MOST have MTI/ARE motors right? CONGRATS!!! Name the top 4th Gens and 9 out of 10 run MM's suspension...but I guess that doesn't mean squat. I didn't know this was a dyno contest to see how much HP one could make on a stock block...I always thought this was about who could go fastest....ARE's claim to fame is Our motors go 8.9 on stock style suspension...MM's is My suspension carries the fastest F-Body's in the world down the track...what the hecks the difference?

Well after watching Madman's car run today, I can say two things for sure:

*He's THE man when it comes to F-Body suspension parts!
*8.75 is just the tip of the iceberg for this monster

I don't think he ever challenged ARE's LS1 motor, he challenged their "stock-style" suspension car, regardless of motor.

Also, anyone can build the motor that's in Madman's car and make it run crazy times. But how many people have gotten ARE heads/motors and been less than pleased? I can think of several off the top of my head. Now how many have gotten Madman suspension parts and haven't liked the results? Can't think of one. There's no one who can honestly say that this guy doesn't know his **** when it comes to making a 4th gen dead hook!!

I met Brian this weekend and he's a helluva guy. He's doing great things for heads-up F-Body racing. He'll be the first guy to lend a hand when you need help, he's the first one to wish you good luck and the first one to congratulate you when you make a hell of a run. I think I'd be pissed off too if I got as much **** from the LS1 crew as he does. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />

What part of Madman's car/engine has been modified for maximum effort that any of his competitors have not?

Is it just because it is not an LS1? What if it were a four cylinder would it be fair then? Madman is giving up cubic inches and IMO tecknowledgy when he puts the SBC against the LS1, but he seems to be doing very well at it. What about the fact that ARE is running a 422 when Madman is running a 400? Is that fair? I hate when someone says its not fair when it comes to racing, beause you chose to run the brand/engine that you are running. Nice job Madman & ARE, both of you are very impressive.

Apparently Wade doesn't feel the need to drop everything and travel that far (and likely lose 1 or 2 days worth of business) just for a challenge. Why not do both Brian AND Wade a favor and hold a shootout that's within a day's (or as close to 1 day as possible) driving distance of either shop? I'd be all about that. My point is that for whatever reason, ARE didn't feel it was necessary to make the trip. I guess my opinion that it would have been pointless is rather irrelevant at this point. But, the fact that ARE didn't go doesn't warrant what I feel was an attack on them that could be the direct cause of a sponsor war, which is not good for any of us.
