Default First Runs on M/T ET Street Radials

Finally got to run the car with the new ET Street Radials..(275/50/15)..I've had them mounted for a couple of weeks so I've put a few hundred miles of local driving..I made the 180 mile round trip to Evadale Raceway in Evadale Texas last night to take advantage of a freak cold front that made it all the way down to the gulf states this weekend..With cooler temps and low humidity's I figured this was a great time to try these new tires out...

I weighed the car with me in it and a half a tank of fuel and it was at 3660 lbs so its still a pig for sure..Since I had to work nights this weekend I knew I was only going to get about 3 runs in before I had to leave so I left everything alone without changing anything other then taking 1/2 lb of air out of the tires on the last pass..

1st run ..Tires at 15 lbs..10 lbs of air in the air bag
60'... 1.67 TEMP..87.1...............7:35PM
330'... 4.81 RH.....44.43
1/8th..7.52 BP.....29.70
1000'..9.87 HPC...1.02
ET.....11.85
MPH...114.30

2nd run..Tires at 15lbs
60'......1.63 TEMP....82.9...............8:27PM
330'.....4.74 RH....... 50.57
1/8th...7.42 BP....... 29.69
1000'...9.75 HPC..... 1.01
ET......11.724
MPH....114.74

3rd run...Tires at 14 1/2 lbs
60'....1.63 TEMP.......81.7............8:45PM
330'...4.73 RH.........52.57
1/8th..7.41 BP..........29.70
1000'..9.74 HPC.......1.01
ET....11.707
MPH..114.97

Corrected Alt. stayed around 2500' above most all evening..But first impressions of the tires are great because the car dead hooked on all 3 passes..The first pass I flashed the converter from 2600 RPM the last 2 I flashed it from 3000 RPM.. On all 3 passes I shifted at 6600 RPM and crossed at 6800 RPM..I wished I could've stayed a little longer because I'm certain the 60' would've dropped and a little more ET could've been had..A freind stayed and his car picked up after 9pm because of the cooler temps..

But IMOP this is the best Street/Strip tire I've run and I've just about tried everything out there available..If fact I'm calling McCormack Racing in the morning to order a second set just to have on hand...

Glad to hear the new tires worked out for you Tim. Let me know how the street wear compares to the BFGs.

So would you say they hook better than the BFG's? I will be in the market soon...

You bet Steve..These tires don't require much of a burnout and don't "chunk" like a BFG..Looks like wear is going to be much better then the BFG's..

have a guy running our local track with a 5-speed stang, he was pulling 4500 clutch drops on a set of these and getting high 1.6 60 foots without a hint of tire spin. I'd almost consider them, but I know they wouldn't consistent enough for all the bracket racing I do. Still a nice alternative to et streets or sportsman pros. I think BFG has got to be shaking just a little...

I'd like to see how these work on a 470+RWHP stick car. They look very promising!

Chris,
Coleman Roddy a former NHRA Modified world champion (84-85) was parked next to me last night and he's in the process of buying a set of the 275/60/15's..His car is a 450+ stick car and should have some passes very soon once he gets his clutch problems figured out..

Excellent! Looking forward to hearing how they work out!

I am surprised they seem to be lasting longer than DR's...

Hey John good to hear from you..My best 60' on the M&H Muscle car tires was a 1.590..Over the 50 passes on 2 sets I averaged a 1.65 60'..The ET Street radials are about 1" shorter then the bias belted 275/50/15 M&H and my car was hauling *** on the top with the 4.10 gear in it..

I'm sure you'll see some big advantages over the BFG's you've ran in the past..

Glad to hear that someone finally tested these tires. But to tell you the truth I'm gonna stick with my 245/50R16 Nittos. We both 60' the same (1.63 at 25 psi) and my car is also 3600 lbs. Nittos gonna last a whole lot longer too and are great in the rain.

Good luck.

These tires work for a stick car. My friend tried to run his 68 388 solid roller motor camaro this weekend on these tires. He runs a richmond 5 speed. He did the best burnout he has ever done and went to the line to launch and BAAAAAM. The 9 inch center section was history and so was his driveshaft. He has moser axle housings but an old used chunk. It would have been nice to see what the car would have 60'd with those tires.

BTW, you can forget about these tires wearing like the bfgs. That is the first burnout he has ever done on those tires and they looked just like slicks, very glazed surface with everything in the world inbedded in them from pushing the car only 100 or so feet off the starting line.

my good friend Robert V. who runs PSCA runs em and cut 3 1.31 60fts in phx when i was there about 2 months ago... these tires work so well, NMRA has outlawed them.. The rubber is more like a slick then a DR and MT says they will wear down very quickly..

i cant see them as wearing better than a radial tire. as for NMRA outlawing them, that doesnt surprise me as they are trying to slow down the cars in their field.

obviously you read the internet.. you have no idea why they have been outlawed... stick to the F-body stuff and not "reading and spreading" what youve heard about the NMRA..
