But, after all, my post, at least, was centered around bolt-on cars. So, you know. At 350-375 RWHP, the 100-lbs. = .1 second is a pretty good rule. One day, you must teach me your secrets. I will be your young Padawan learner (or apprentice, if you will).

LOL @ Joe. When everyone is done with the "real" racing, what is wrong with going after those "internet ET's"? I'm after em.

quote:
a 3500 race weight is unheard of in other racing organizations.

Unfortunately, it is not - at least in the Mustang Racing organization world. For example, my 2001 minimum weight in Factory Stock was 3500 lbs. I've been working on that though (ie...losing a lot), and this year it was lowered to 3450, and next year will be 3375 (tried to ge it lowered to 3300, but NMRA wouldn't bite).

A couple of the faster classes get pretty close to that too, with certain combinations.

FWIW...I personally won't "gut" my car. Do I want to get it as light as possible? You bet - I'm down to 3225 lbs with me. However, I will only lighten it under certain conditions. Those include retaining the A/C, a nice stereo, all the safety equipment (air bags, door braces, bumpers, etc), all the plastic and carpeting, and curiously enough - both front seats. I just can't bring myself to run without both front seats....just one of those things. I still need to get a lighter hood and one or two other minor things that should get me down to non-NMRA raceweight of near 3200 lbs.

The sucky part is that I am going to have to add a scattershield and rollbar soon, and class rules prevent me from doing such neat things as tubular front ends and coil overs (nor can I use real headers or aftermarket MAF meters or TB's).

Oh well. To each their own.

I know this- when I encounter H/C LS1 M6's at the track and they brag
about 410-430 rwhp. They're usually 3-4 car lenghts behind me.

Also, I think gutting a car is tuning-- just the cheap way.

If anyone out there has run faster times than what we show on our list, what prevents them from posting about it? I want for someone to name me a person, just one person, anywhere out there in this world that runs anywhere near the top of any particular list, but just has absolutely no idea that these lists exist on the internet and/or has absolutely no means to access the internet. If they know of the lists and can access the internet, yet don't want to let us all know how fast they are, I say that's their problem. I don't see how that would be different if the lists were kept using any other media. I, for one, won't be labeled an internet racer because someone out there doesn't want us to know what he/she runs. I can't speak for anyone else, but I know that all my runs are made at real live race tracks, not make-believe internet ones. I've even been to the two big Texas tracks on several occasions (Ennis and HRP), and run all kinds of good times. It's not my fault if no one notices. What better way to communicate with so many other car guys across so many miles and different obstacles than the internet? And who has a better idea to keep track of who is fastest in a certain field of criteria?

Man, I need to shut up. I sound like a pregnant woman. Oh, well. Drag racing is a hobby worth getting all worked up over. Besides, I will not deny anyone the right to their own opinion. Take care!!!! <--- No, this doesn't mean I'm not going to post on this thread anymore.

Rageman....I certainly was not implying that you or anybody else here is an "internet racer". My "internet ET" comment was simply meant to convey that there are those (me included) that like to go faster than the next guy (in a similarly-modded state) that we usually only know via the internet....often via these 'lists'. In fact, when I go to the track during this time of the year, I almost always state up front that I'm going out to run an 'internet ET'.

Nothing at all wrong with that, IMHO. Like I said, I'm gunnin for you bolt-on M6's (the ones I only know on the net, except for Larry), so watch your back.

There is hardly ever any freezing precipitation, and cold, dense air is to be found if you plan your trips to the track right. Anyone not from Texas should seriously consider visiting some time before it gets warm next spring for some awesome times. Hopefully the weather at the LT1/LS1 shootout will be good for racing. I'd try to get here before March if at all possible, cuz you just never know.

I've made these points before, but I'll make them again. If Mr. Marsh @ AMS was claiming that it was tuning that got V6 Bird (aka Beenfetchedlately aka Mike) down to 11.3, I sure didn't see it. Who is saying it isn't a given that 100 lbs. of weight reduction = -.1 off your ET and also = + 1 MPH to your trap speed? We know that. I personally didn't make the Thunder Shootout because my car wasn't ready and I was short on money. There isn't any doubt in anyone's mind (or at least I hope not) that if you increase raceweight, you go slower. Us poor people that can't afford engine mods resort to cheap ways to go fast, and there's not a thing in the world wrong with it. People may not like it, but that's okay too. The point, for people like V6 Bird and myself, is going fast and breaking records. You may think the whole "bolt-on" race and records and what not are gay, and that's fine, but that's a whole other can of worms. In order for anyone aspiring to break the bolt-on record to do so, they absolutely must get their raceweight down. Some people choose to do it the easy way (unbolting stuff whether it makes it look ghetto and everyone can see it or not), some do it the hard way, via replacing parts with aftermarket lightweight parts, etc. Speaking from a personal standpoint only, I could care less what you or anyone thinks or says about the way my car looks. It's my car and I'll do what I want to with it. If someone's car weighs X lbs. with him/her in it, it's going to run Y seconds @ Z MPH whether it happens to have carpet, interior panels, etc. or not. You say you generally add 3 tenths to a person's ET if you see the interior gutted, and that's generally a pretty good rule, but how do you know Joe Blow over here running just as well or better doesn't have just as light a car or even lighter even though he may have his full interior? You don't until you talk to the guy and get an honest answer from him. My point is that what matters (as far as track times go) is the raceweight itself, not HOW you get to that raceweight, nor what it looks like when you're done. Now, if you want to vomit when you look at it, that's fine, everyone has different tolerances. But, it doesn't nullify or descredit anyone's accomplishment merely because they chose the easy/cheap way to get their raceweight down as opposed to hiding it via lightweight replacement parts or other unseen/unmentioned items that have been removed.

To each their own.
