Tracks open in Alabama.
I am trying to figure out which track in Alabama is the best and closest to Kentucky. I'm thinking Steele and Montgomery are both open maybe? Anyway which would be the closest and if one is a touch farther is it worth it to go to the better track?

Montgomery is by far the better of the two 1/4 mile tracks in Alabama. It would be worth it to me even if it meant a further drive.

Steele 268 miles... Montgomery 345 miles

If your running 9's at 130+mph like the Colonel maybe Montgomery would be a better track, if not go to Steele. Montgomery is a better run track without a lot of ruff pavement in the shutdown area. Steele gets a bit bumpy and ruff after you pass the 1/4mile mark. I've never had problems with it in the right lane, but I did notice it when I was in the left lane. It takes 3 hours from TN to get to Steele and I wouldn't want to drive 4.5 just to go to Montgomery

Montgomery's track surface is silky smooth from one end to the other with PLENTY of runout area. Steele, on the other hand, has potholes that could bend a rim (at least the last time I was there. Could be fixed by now.) I hit one with my right tire once after the finish line in the left lane that was so violent, the first thing I did when I pitted was I checked that tire/rim. I really thought that rim shoulda been bent. Thanks for building strong rims Weld. And if you're running 130 MPH or better you'll appreciate the extra runnout area that Montgomery affords.
IMO, unless Steele has been repaved and made longer, Montgomery's track (and facility in general) is far better.

Steele ever fix the pot holes in the shutdown area and return road? I know they had been there for a close 2 years the last time I went. As far as it being a good track it has been at times, but every trip is a gamble. One night we had to pay them a $100 to prep the track. Not long after that we quit going except for the BFBA event. Anyway some of my last trips to steele were very entertaining. Kids sitting on the wall and some triggering lights with their feet. 4 wheel drives with dirt falling off when they take off. Anyway you get my drift. When there is a controlled enviroment there the track can be good. Otherwise it is not.
MMP is more consistant to say the least.
