Bumper supports are the only thing keeping your engine out of your lap in a head on collision. And good luck getting insurance to cover any damages when they find out the bumper supports have been removed.

I think that being safe in an accident is more important than 25lbs off my car, but maybe I'm different.

Well, you may not need them too much with a 'trailered only' race car but in a car that sees even 500 miles or more per year on public roads you probably do actually need them.
I like weight reduction more than most people but the potential damage/catastrophy that can result from not having the fornt (or even the back) supports in during a hard enough impact can be devastating.

Was it really that much? Nice.
I wonder exactly what removing the entire AIR and EGR systems are combined, could be some nice reduction there.

Even with the bumper support taken out there still is the two beams that suppoted the support. There is about 3 feet inbetween them.

I would not do it on a daily driver.
Do not think I would ever feel good about loosing the rear one.

I removed my back seats & rear seat buckles. That equated to 32 pounds. Other than that I have only taken the spare & jack out. I'm really considering taking the front sway bar off in hopes that I'll gain a tenth in the 60'. I hear people saying that the sway bar removal is good for a tenth, what do you guys think that have removed yours? I could do without the Air conditioning as well, so if I drop the AC & sway bar, what gains are realistic? Just looking for some educated ideas, Fred

The guys that take out the bumpers crack me up. You should have seen what my 94 Buick Century looked like after some bimbo who was high on coke and drunk slammed into my car. She was going way too fast for the wet and curvy road conditions. She lost cotrol and ended up sideways in my lane with me having nowhere to go. The nose of my car and the pass rear door and quarter on her 03 Malibu intoduced themselves to eac other. Thank God it wasn't head on. The hood of my car was as high as the roof. The roof and floor buckled. I kissed the air bag, but luckily nothing in my body broke. Imagine if I didn't have the bumpers in there. Oh and this happened on a Sunday night in March at 11:45 in the evening. You cannot account for what the other people on the road are going to do, no matter how careful you may be.

The A/C thing is also funny since mine gets alot of use up here in NY. And not just cause it's hot. Tell me something guys, what happens when it's raining on a humid day? Your windows fog up. So if it's 80* out and pouring you can't see out of the windows unless you blast the defroster with the heat on. Sounds like fun for a whopping 20-30 lbs of A/C stuff.

What makes the new muscle cars great is that you don't have to drive a shitbox to go fast. The !sway bar is cool and mine's out too. It gives you more of a gain than any other wieght reduction because it allows the front end to rise when launching. My rear seats and belts/jack and spare (I got AAA) are out aswell. Car weighs 3550 with me and a 1/4 on the stock 16" wheels. I'm not taking out the bumpers or the A/C and race wheels are just that RACE wheels. If the car ever becomes an all out race car than that stuff and alot more will go, but not until then.

SilverSurfer, to each their own, please don't try and start any of your usual flame wars in this thread, it WILL aggravate me.

Your opinion is valued, but you don't need to be getting salty with folks over their choice to remove weight from their cars.

Getting "salty"? Flame wars? Whatever.

If trying to tell guys that keeping the bumpers might save their lives is getting salty than so be it.

The A/C is not only for comfort but it too has a safety value. Clear, unfogged windows.

Light weight RACE wheels. What else is there to say.

Nothing, so I'll keep my "valued" opinion to myself.

Good points. But some of us have already taken thier cars off the road.

I used to have a car with no AC and the defroster worked just fine without the AC condenser.

I would never take the bumper support out if it was a daily driver.

LOL the heat here is pretty serious. being able to run 10s and still have AC is the main reason i perfer my LS1 over my BBC powered 69 camaro. back in the day i put up heat for many years. now that i have an AC hotrod, i have gotten way to spoiled. the AC is staying in my car also.

Well I'll tell ya what happened to me on several occassions when I had a 79 Formula with a Chevy 454/headers/no AC. Got stuck in several rain storms during hot and humid summer days. Couldn't roll the windows down more than 1/2" without getting soaked. With the defrost on cold the windows weren't getting unfogged and it was hot in the cabin. With the defrost on hot the windows got somewhat unfogged, not all the way mind you, but between the heat from the headers coming through the floor board and the defroster on hot it was a good 110-120* in the car when stopped in traffic. It was brutal.

Have we all forgotten the old days? Carrying a rag, napkins or paper towels to keep the windows clear? Don't need those if ya got A/C. Well, not unless you're parked for a while and hot breaths are steaming up the windows.

So by a show of hands, who here lives in a house with no A/C?

I know there's different strokes for different folks and I'm cool with that, but !30 lbs isn't worth it to me and seems like quite alot of other folks. I guess if your car's a race car or what not, then ditch the A/C. But there's nothing funnier than getting stuck in the staging lanes, on a hot summer day, cause someone dumped something on the track and watching the race car boys sitting there sweating their ball$ off. But that might not affect the guys who don't race their cars in the summer months. I drive/race my cars year round.

What makes these cars great is that they run like a raped ape and you can still enjoy all those wonderful accessories. .03-.05 slower to sweat my ball$ off? LOL

Hope that wasn't too salty cause it wasn't meant to be.

LOL, Yeah cause that surely is one of the biggest water dumpers on the track.

Unlike the guys using ice bags on their intakes or the FWD morons who go through the water box so they can do a burnout in preparation for their 16 sec run.
