Default Tips for removing Dash?

Anyone have any tips for removing the dash? How long does it normally take?

Also if I were to remove the pass airbag do I need to clear a code in the PCM or is there a resistor that works? (Tom the Roofer mentioned he used a resistor)

Thanks!
Chris

hehe.

Removing the dash is a pain in the ***.

I followed the helms manual on what to unbolt and what connectors to disconnect. I completely removed my dash about 3 weeks ago, I was gutting the heater core and the passenger air bag.

I can't even remember all the steps I did, I took my time and I think I spent less than an hour removing the dash. I would just suggest using the steps in the helms, that way you don't waste time unbolting stuff that didn't need to get unbolted.

Before you mess with the SIR system, either pull the fuse in the fuse box to the left of the steering wheel or disconnect the battery. I don't trust the air bags hehe.

I removed my SIR sensor from the center console when I installed my Cheetah Shifter. I had the air bags in the car just no sensor. It doesn't throw a code to the PCM, but the "Air Bag" light will be on all the time in the dash. It never bothered me that it was on even daily driving.

You will never know he took the air bags out.

Heck I removed my heater core, all the AC ducting from inside the dash, as well as the driver and passenger air bags. All of these are hidden behind the dash, you can remove them and the car will look as stock as the day you bought it.

hehe I am going to put the dash back in. Just removing HVAC, airbags, and possibly radio.

Going to use a lightweight Summit heater for defrost only and mount it to the firewall (comes with three speed switch.)

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks!

It isn't that hard. Especially if you have a Helm's manual. I was using a flashlight for illumination with no manual and I got it done eventually. I do have a handful of screws that didn't go back and a couple of pieces I broke off though. Oh well, less weight. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I didn't pull the entire HVAC system, just the airbags. Also, I decided to remove the heater core after i had the dash back on. I was told the dash has to be off to get the heater core out even if you don't have the airbag in. This isn't true. I had mine out in 10 minutes with the dash on the car. If you do plan to remove the entire HVAC system, I think there is a bolt behind the intake that you need to remove. Good luck!

Are you removing the heater core? or just the AC components from the engine bay?

It was very easy to remove all the heater/AC/air bags. Getting the dash off and over the steering wheel was annoying. The heater core has screws on the inside of the car as well as some in the engine bay. You will have to remove your pcm to get to the screws. I have my engine and trany out of the car right now so I actually stood in the engine bay and removed the screws. The whole heater assembly comes out from inside of the car. Becareful when pulling it out there is coolant in there, just don't wanna spill it on the interior.

Cool thanks for the tips!

I have my engine and tranny in the car so it might be a little more difficult getting that those screws/bolts in the engine compartment! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

Cheers,
Chris

Are you saying you can remove the HVAC stuff without removing the dash? (Heater core etc?) If so how?

thanks,
Chris
