Default QTP 27x11.5 versus ET Drag 26x10

I'm having trouble hooking on 26x10.5 et streets and I'm looking for a new set of tires. Which of the above would be a better choice? Mods in the sig. I haven't sprayed the car yet. If I can't hook on motor the bottle will just make it worse. My best 60' is only a 1.59 I know I need to tweak my suspension but tires can't hurt.

I`m going to run the Hoosier 27x11.5`s myself. I`ve been having trouble hooking on M/T 26x11.5`s. I think they (QTP`s) are a good balance as far as diameter and width to say a true 28" tire (Fitment issues). What gear are you running? I`m going to 4.11`s for my set up.

I'm running 3.50 gears. I don't want to hack the car up to run 28's. What rim are you running? I have 15x8.5 convo pros. The summit book says 8-10" rim for the 11.5 QTP but I think 8" wouldn't work as well.

I`ve got 15x10 Centerline Warriors. The 26x11.5 ET Streets fit these well, but I`d like a little taller tire. And like you, I will not cut my car up either!

Do the tires stick out any? What's the backspace on that rim? Is there room for a taller tire? Very curious.

Doubt the QTP will satisify you guys. If you are looking for a biger/taller tire without getting to big - and still hooks - try the MT 28x9x15 ET Drags. They are only 27.3" vice the full 28". The fit on my Convo Pro 15x8.5 without any problems. On engine only best todate is 1.53 on engine only. I have 30x9 for nitrous runs.

The tires stick out about an inch too much for my tastes. I`m doing a rear end here soon and I`m going to have it narrowed an 1" on each side. That should be enough to tuck them in nicely. Back spacing on the rims is 6.5". From pictures I had seen, the 15x10`s w/6.5" BS tucked in better than the 15x8.5`s w/5" of BS, so I went with the 15x10`s. Plus it left the option of going to a bigger tire. However, with the input I have been getting lately, I don`t know that a wider tire is necessary and in fact may be hurting my times. So, I`m hoping these 4.11`s and a taller tire will help shave a 1/10 and pick up a MPH or two. I like Dave`s suggestion of the 28x9 ET Drags, but I have to run a DOT tire and I don`t think they would fit my 15x10`s.

What rims do you have?

And at what RPM are you crossing the line?
If you are crossing at/near your HP peak then I wouldn't go with a taller tire, unless you can't run a slick, then go to the 27x11.5x15.

10" wide is as wide as you can go on a Hoosier 26". On a QTP you want a 8"-10" rim, preferably 8". On a slick you'd want a 9-10 rim 9 being better.

Tell me about your 1.59 60'. were you spinning the tires, did the tire spin on the rim.

Is there a reason why you want a DOT tire?

Suspension would definately help the 60'. You are going to need it eventually, so I would bite the bullet and get it now and see how your tires do.

I have full suspension already. I know it needs some tweaky. I've messed with my shocks and pinion angle and nothing seems to make a differance. Someone mentioned on another post I may need to set my shocks tighter instead of lighter. On my 1.59 I could tell it hooked a little better but I still spun some. I don't need a DOT tire...I was just curious if a DOT qtp w/more sidewall and wider would hook better then an et drag with less sidewall and skinnier. I'm running convo pros 15x8.5. I have alot of gear left at the traps but I plan to spray the car and also drive it a fair bit off the track.
