Unhappy Why did my E.T. only go down 5 tenths?

I had the Vette Doctors install a set of AS stage II 5.3 liter heads and a cam selected by Jay, with some input by me. The car went from 316rwhp/380rwtq to 388rwhp/410rwtq, which I can't complain about(72rwhp/30rwtq). But my E.T. only dropped from 11.62 @ 114(stock heads and cam) to 11.11 @ 121. Both passes were at the same track and conditions(same DA). The only differences were that I went from TPIS headers to Kooks when the heads and cam were installed. And for the 11.11 I used a few gallons of race gas. The 100 octane really helped my MPH.

I don't know if the cam(230/236 .570/.578 114 +3) is too large for my converter and gears(Y SS4000 & 3.73 rear). Or if the specs I asked for lowered my gains. I asked for less than .600 lift for valvetrain durability. And a 114 LSA for idle quality and for a chance at passing emissions.

Any advice?
TIA,

what were your 60' times with both runs? what else did you change with the heads/cam? you may have spun more this time than before.

You picked up 72 rwhp on the dyno which translated to a 7 mph gain at the track. That sounds right to me, as far as your ET is concerned, you might try fine tuning your suspension, converter and tires. However, 5 tenths is still a pretty good gain.

60's were low 1.5's, before and after as seen in my sig. The car actually 60' better beforehand, but I found a better technique after the H&C were done to bring them back down.

How should I tune my converter? Go to a higher stall?
Any other input?

Given optimal conditions, 70 hp would only be a .7 sec gain anyway. I'm guessing your answer to the lost 2 tenths is found somewhere in traction or suspension.

Also, racing isn't absolute formulas you can just plug hp numbers into and get results. I'd say nice gain for what you did!

You're on the verge of running 10's with a relatively mild setup, I'd say you're doing something right!

Nice times, btw.

Thanks!
I don't know if there's anymore in the launch, 1.51 is impressive for my mods, etc..
Not much I can do for the suspension. Hal has shocks, but I haven't seen anyone post any gains from them on the strip.
I could try going up in stall(to 4400) and try 3.90's next time I have the rear out for a rebuild.
I can try shifting a little higher and see what happens, thanks guys.

At your current performance level I think you made good progress.
70 hp @ the 11sec are is not gonna provide ET gains like in the 14 or 13 sec area.
100hp may net you close to a sec if you have a 14 sec ride but consider adding 100hp to a 8sec ride, you will see .05 to .1 if your lucky. I'd say you got a pretty quick car for such a mild setup..Any type of power adder wioud put you deep in to the 10's....remember that. Just my 02

BLOWNGS-you missed my post on hel shocks/struts at the track. i have a m6,my 60 foots went from 1.68's-1.72's to 1.58 new best. my 1/8th mph went from 96 to 98mph,i gained 2.3mph total in the 1/8th. 7.5's 1/8 to 7.3's.1/8th times(motor). my car boged out of the hole at 6,500rpm's with my m&h rasemasters at 16psi with them set at #3 front and #4 rear. i have the r-series hals/wstock front springs. with them set at #6 they feel like stock. i only have 1/8th times because of no roll cage.

This is exactly right. If it still worked that way once you pass into the 11s/10s everyone would be in the 9s
