Default NHRA Rule modifications for 2005

They are posted: http://www.nhra.com/2004/news/november/110102.html

Check out the rules for role cages in particular. Looks like 11.49 is now the bump.

I read that too, but is this aside from the 'pure stock' rule? If that even exists still?

So this means a heads/cam car running 11.62 on motor won't get tossed out without a 6 pt cage? Or a bolt on LS1 on spray can run to 11.49?

Well if this is true, this is good news for me I don't want a cage in my car.

The new rule looks as if it doesnt matter what you have done to your car, if you run slower than 11.49 you dont need the roll bar or sfi equipment. The old rule stated the car had to be mostly stock, but most tracks didnt seem to mind.

I thought that's what it meant too. Our track is giving peeps a hard time some of them anyway going 11's without a cage.

Well, good news for me I can now go bigger with my cam. Or keep the one I have and add some heads.

Prior to this rule change, the 11.49 bump was strictly for competition cars in the NHRA Lucas Oil Stock category. NHRA has now made it trickle down to the test and tune level, as I was told by my good friend that is an NHRA POWERade/Lucas Oil Tech Inspector. Just make sure, if you don't have a roll-bar, that you do not run faster than 11.500. This is great news and I have already spread the word about it, and I will be taking my national dragster to local events if needed.

this will definately encourage more people to come out racing without a bar in high to mid 11 second cars. I'd say the pure stock rule is still in effect for cars such as vipers and mustang cobra convertibles, b/c otherwise they would require a rollbar at 13.49. Kinda pisses me off that I put a bar in mine when I could have slowed it down a few tenths to avoid it. Oh well, nothing I can do about it now.....

Just be warned some tracks may have insurance rules that will over ride this

Great rule change. I still plan on going fast enough to need my 8 point bar

Individual tracks can still use their on discretion as well. They can't obviously compromise safety, but if they require something that the rules don't state is needed then they're free to do so....

"Beginning Jan. 1, 2005, a roll bar and an SFI 16.1
driver-restraint system will be mandatory on any
vehicle running 11.49 or quicker and for convertibles
running 13.49 or quicker."

Well, that blows. I ran a 13.6, bone stock. I guess
I'll get one pass and kicked out, but now there's
even no honor in that. Used to be, getting kicked
out meant something. But I'm not gonna ugly up
my smoooothPimpaLuvMobile for a biennial track
visit.
