well with a stock rear and a stock clutch you wont be looking at much more than one pass down the track. if that. with a 12 bolt and a spec you should probably see mid to high 11s, depending on your driving

would i break it with shifts besides the launch...such as if i launch soft...i'm really wanting to be mid 11's with the rear and clutch...but just want it to be safe for some"spirited" driving until i can get the money to buy the rear and clutch...that is going to be like 4,000

the shifts will break it..... at that power level... it may break just by punching the gas... no shift involved.

very possible but they are just ticking time bombs. they could blow at any time. also m6 cars are more probable to break the rear than an a4

besides the stock rear and clutch, those tires are going to hold you back from achieving your goals

oh if i got the rear and clutch i would run slicks at the track...no problems there...i'm just not going to take a chance with the 10-bolt when i don't have enough cash to fix it if it breaks

I run mid 1.5's with slicks on my stock 3:23 geared 10 bolt.

I doubt if youd break the 10bolt with the stock clutch. The pre2001 clutches are terrible. The clutch will mostly slip b4 anything else can break. At least thats how it was with my car. With the stock engine, I launched it several times at 4k rpms on nittos and the clutch would slip real bad. I got rid of the nittos.

With the cam, headers, and regular radials the clutch held up for a lil while. It eventually started to slip after 6 months. It slips real bad during the gear changes. I imagine from the torque of heads and cam the 2000 clutch will slip immediately. A slippin clutch is better than breaking things but its just as frustrating. At the track I lost 4mph with the clutch slippin. The power wasnt getting to the ground.

It takes a lot for an A4 to snap a 10 bolt. The problem with M6 cars and the stock rear isn't how much power you make (but that does play a certain role) its how much you "shock" the driveline when you dump the clutch. A4's don't shock the driveline nearly as much since they preload everything. I would bet that if you launch soft and dont shift hard you can get away with the stock rear for a while. I personally wouldn't chance it. Get the rear first.
