Default 29.5" tire fitment

I know this has been addressed before. I even searched but couldn't come up with anything.

What is needed to be done in order to fit a 29.5" tire. Please list any and all modifications and pictures.

Thank you!

mike you have to stick your right bicep in the fender and just bust it all apart.

Mike, you need to go in as far as you can. A 15x10 on a 5 will get it in far enough with the lower control arms fully offset to the inside. It will be extremely tight against the fender lip after that. Like what Chris showed, you may want to stretch the front edge of the fender 1.5". You do not need to stretch it both ways, but that's your choice. That will make the front edge of the wheel well flush with the inner wheel well and still look really nice. The thing that sucks is that it requires some body work and paint. I'm sure you could tuck it without doing that, but I wouldn't personally risk slashing the tire because it's awfully damn tight and huge. In comparison a 30" x 9" might not require near as much work and yield a very similar contact patch. The problem with the tire is really section width, not necessarily diameter.

I realized this the hard way. I was running 28x10.5W on a 15x9.5 rim. The tire rubbed pretty bad. I had plenty of clearence on both the front and rear fender, but like you said, it was inside that was the problem.

Now, since I am going to a 29.5x10.5, I think the section width is less than on a 28W. Since I made room fro the 28W, will that allow the 29.5 to fit?

Here are some pics of my car when I did it. I cut 1.5in in the front and rear. I massaged the inner fenders pretty heavily but I am sure you already did that for your Wtire. I do however believe that the 10.5W tire with a 12in contact patch will hook better then the 29.5 tire with a 10.3in contact patch even with more rollout.

I cut front and rear fenders so they go straigth down...

I cut the whole bump stop bracket out..

I cut the front inner corner out, almost boxing it.. but I just cut as much as I could without welding and then pounded it with a hammer.

Get a really big hammer and pound in everywhere just for fun too.

Now I remember why I stuck with a 26 x 11.5 None of these clearance issues ( and enough traction for my wimpy car )
