Default Kirkey mounting pics

Thought I would share how I went about mounting my seats.
I built frames that mount to the stock studs out of mild steel square tubing.
Built in a crotch strap bracket on the drivers side frame.
The frames are very rigid and weigh 2.75lbs each.
I used Kirkey floor mount brackets that mount to the frames that allows adjustability.
Jegs back braces with longer roll bar tabs I made.
I have the seats mounted a bit lower than stock seat height, but Helmet to rollbar clearance is still not NHRA legal.
These cars just don't have a high enough roof line IMO to meet NHRA specs and still allow a good seating position. At least for my dwarf height of 5'9" .

Are you sure your door bar is legal?

It's a Wolfe roll bar I put in this car about 5 years ago. Nah it is not technically legal but I have never been questioned about it yet.
If it became an issue I'll cut it off and weld a straight bar in. No biggy to me.

I'm not that worried about saving every ounce like some of you guys. I'll just add more power if I need it . But I wanted a nice light strong seat setup that also looks good. The stock TA seats weighed in at just under 90lbs for the pair.
A single non power seat out of a f-body may be light and is a good budget method, but it is also fugly.

Anyhow, each seat with every mounting part, nut and bolt plus cover is 18.5lbs.
That's still pretty darn light.

nice looking set up SJH and at 18.5lbs it's still over 5lbs lighter than a non power stocker.

Looks great Steve. I know what you mean about the head clearance and that's part of the reason why I made mine the way I did.

The helmet should be 3" from the top off the rollbar. Not going to happen for most of us unless you sit on the floor. Some NHRA rules you just have to try and conform as best you can and meet the spirit of the rule. IMO these cars have a problem with this rule for most drivers. The roof line is low and you have a big long hood and cowl you need to see over.

Where does it state that they want a minimum distance from the cage? From the looks of that pic, it seems the closer the better...

it's in the rule book. NHRA and IHRA state the same distances.
what's the width of those seats?
A 16" for my side and a 17" for pass side.
17" was a bit loose for me but 16" a bit tight. I just used a jack and a couple blocks of wood to open up my 16" for a custom fit.
