I cracked my windshield today is there a light weight option? I've seen plexiglass in dragsters. Any help is appreciated.

u can do Lexan, but it wont Pass D.O.T. if u need to get it inspected.

I saw someone on here talking about Speed Glass from a place call Percy`s I think. I saw a picture of a red Camaro with a rear hatch window and it looked as good as real glass. I think they sell a thicker Speed Glass for the windshield that dosen`t require you to have supports on the windshield like a stock car. Just remember the DOT thing that was stated above. Not everybody follows the rules, right?

Just saw a post by Big Mike that has the Carteck car. I think he is the one with the Speed Glass in the hatch. There is a pic. in his sig.

I did speed glass in this car. The side windows and the back. The side ones had to be bent some more. But they do roll up and down.

How did you bend them? Wold you reccomend the door windows for a daily driver? Also dose it look like real glass like they say it dose. Hows it holding up to scratching since youv`e been letting the windows up and down.

The side windows have a curve in them. All there glass still needs to be cut. When the side windows went in there was a gap at the top about 7 inches. The glass wont break. you can bend it in a break if you want. What I did was mark about 1 inch under where you cant see the glass when its installed. Then I took it and built a vice off a table. Then took a heat gun and heated the bottom up. And pulled on the glass at the same time. It took a few times to get it where we needed it. But you cant tell its not glass. And it rolls up and down fine. Where I heated the glass up it blistered. So make sure you heat it where you wont see it when its installed.

Windshield and hatch are going in my racecar next week.I bought Percy speed glass.

Per Derty's recommendation I bought the 3/16 windshield so I don't have to use a brace.

I don't want to screw mine in.. and also don't want to do it myself. I want to take it somewhere to have it "professionally" done as I don't trust my work on that type of job.

How much did it cost and how much weight does it save to just do the windsheild and hatch?

It doesn't look like a hard job.I plan on using the factory glass as a template.

I'm going to trace the perimeter of the factory glass onto the lightweight
stuff.
Going to use a bandsaw and plenty of patience to cut it out.I'll paint the inside perimeter of the glass about 1 inch deep with black paint to hide the sealant.

My bodyman/painter will be around to help,he say's it's no different than putting in factory glass after it's cut to fit.

Price varies on the thickness you want.I bought the 3/16 inch for the front so I don't have use a brace.Got the thinnest they had for the hatch.The thicker it is the more it cost's.I'd have to dig the receipt out but it was around $500 for both.

I'll put pics up next week when my formally sebring silver car is sporting it's new 03 Z06 Electron blue paint.

I traced the old glass also. It was still a little off. But not far. Had to do a little more trimming in the corners in the back. I glued it in. The back hatch is a PITA to cut out. The worst part is the percy glass doesnt have the black ring around the back. So you can see the glue. I was going to paint it. Instead I made a peice out of black vinyl looks good. I make vinyl decals. and if anyone doing this needs the vinyl to cover up the back to hide the glue let me know. Or you could paint it.

How much weight savings we lookin at here? the "kit" i'm lookin at is about $1130.00 3/16 widshield and 1/8 everything else.

Their site says about 60-65lbs if I remember correctly for a full kit.

If you do the pin on hatch itself you loose even more weight. LOL


You can get an F-body down to 2500lbs with a driver and the safety stuff pretty easily.
