Yeah, something has to take the stress of the hook (assuming you DO hook), so it's either the rearend or the clutch. If you ease out of the clutch (slipping it), there will be less stress on your rear.
You could also just launch (if you can even call it a "launch" lol) at 1500-2000 rpms. This will assure that you aren't too tough on the 10 bolt, but obviously won't yield you the greatest 60ft times.
Like I said, I have had good luck launching 2200-2500 rpms while easing out of the clutch and slowly giving it gas till it hooks. I wish I just had the damn money for a rearend because I'd be launching upwards of 6,000 on a sticky! One day...one day

ill tell ya.... ive had 4:10's for ever.... nothing broken.
but ive never launched HARD..... after the H/C ive beeb even more cautious...
thou after i did the TQarm and rear sway the rear feals alot more solid at take off....
so now ive learned how to take off on street tires... for me the fastest off the line is to quickly slip the clutch at 2500rpm (not drop)... its spins, till redline, then bang 2nd
and it hooks ok.... the sus. helps.
i am not brave enough to try DR's but i may in the furture....
oh, and im still running the stock clutch, and ill i have in the rear are the gears, and a mac cover.....
good luck!

i've got gm 4.10's with a ta girdle and ive been pulling 1.6xx sixty's on et streets. i launch like 30th t/a says, 4000-4500 and feather the clutch. i don't know how long it will last, but the last few times at the track were fun.

It's the wheel hop that ends up killing the rears. if you feel it hopping, or spinning a lot, get out of the gas. It's better to abort one run then kill your rear.

****, I want to swap gears in my A4 car, but scared to blow the R&P out, I do launch hard but nothing like a clutch dump would be. Just a measley 175shot, 3,000 rpm TC, but swapping to 250shot and 3800stall...Think 4.10 would take that with DR?

At LACR in southern CA in my 95 z(sold) with 4.10's and a spec stage 3 on street tires i would just power brake it(yes it was an m6), i'd 2 foot it and I would run 1.9 60's all day long (literally 27 runs in 1 day nothing broke!!!!) had the clutch out jsut enough to put load on the rear at about 3k so it wouldn't just bee sudden, seems like the weight transfer was awesome and it worked well. you dont even have to power brake it just let the clutch barely engage(not enough to move the car) and it should be find unless you have a great clutch. Have fun.
