I am thinking about remove all the sound deadening material from under the carpet. Just wondering if its easy to do? Can it be a pain in the ***? and long should it take? also any tips or help like that would be appreciated as well. Oh, if this type of thread comes up in here a lot let me know, cause I didnt find that much through searching. Thanks .

Its not hard to do but its not really worth it. Some say the deadening is worth around 30lbs but my carpet with deadening and all weighed 38lbs on my scale.

if i were you i'de just go ahead and lay down the lightweight carpet and be done with it. your gonna do it later anyways. i did it a while ago and it looks great.
I didn't use the expensive stuff everyone on here uses. I just went to the fabric store and got some fleece.

I just gutted my carpet and I it was 28lbs when all was said and done, I had a big *** lawn/leaf garbage bag full of stuff, only thing that I did that you may or may not want to do is cut it where it goes behind the center console to make it easier to get out.

Mike K- You removed 28lbs of stuff of the factory carpet? Did you remove anything other than the foam backing?

Thanks, Shawn

I just had mine out and got like 6 or 8lbs of stuff. All I could get was the padding or insulation. I couldn't figure out how to get the black backing off.

I just used a razor and cut literally everything out or scraped it off except the top layer of carpet., I also used it to get alot of the tar etc and I even weighed it when I was done, let me search on my name cause I posted it up a little while ago while it was still fresh in my head and I think I may have posted a weight up, The garbage bag I had full of stuff was huge though.

Thanks for the help guys! What all did you have to remove to make the job easier? Is putting the stock carpet back in difficult? Sorry for all the questions.
