I left mine in the sun and let the heat do the work. Then pull it off.

I did the same as 00ta... it's amazing what an hour or so in the sun will do for that stuff. After it got hot, I pulled it up in very large sections and most of it came of clean. The few areas that stuck I took a flat putty knife and scraped.

Dammit. Wish I would have had that advice a couple weeks ago when I had my carpet out.

I know that just taking out the sound deadning material removes about 18-20 lbs. I had two full trash bags after I got it all off. But I haven't weighed it to find out an exact weight. Hell I didn't even know that the black stuff under the sound deadning would come off too. Tally you have a really sharp car man I like the black ZR1's I saw your car one day at Cecil.

Are you guys talking about the black stuff that is attached directly under the carpet that is under the thick sound deadning? I may have to remove the interior again if that stuff will come off too. LOL

Not too much sun up here in washington, maybe if you could leave it in the rain for an hour and get the same effect .

well guys i tried leaving it in the sun and it wont work..i left it out for 1.5 hrs and its 95 degrees..everytime i make a little cut and try to peel it off, carpet comes off and it will only come up in little chunks...very tiny chunks..i even tried putting a hair dryer on it..i got it so hot it burned when you touched it but still wont work...what am i doing wrong? where do i make the cuts? on the edges or just any random spot..and why does carpet come off along with the mat when i try to rip it off?

You're just talking about the sound deadening, right? Don't know what to tell you as I just left mine in the sun and then started pulling it up. You don't cut, the purpose of the razor is to scrape the remaining deadening material from the black rubber carpet backing. I see now that you're also talking about the black rubber mat. From what I could tell that's what holds the carpet loom together. If it goes, so does the carpet.

yeah there is a film that actually hold carpet together which you can't take off, then there is the sound deadening insulation and some black tar stuff which most of was in the back portion if I remember right (maybe all of it was back there) Is this what you are talking about?

so its about 18#'s if you remove the sound deadening

anyone know what you would save over that is you took out all the carpet and replaced it with walmart carpet
think it would be worth the hassle?

Even witha ll the stuff stripped off it still felt heavy, I see people saying the Wal Mart stuff is like 3 lbs, so it would save more weight for sure, for me I'm not much of a fabricator so i just stuck with the stock carpet.

took 15 minutes in the Wisconsin sun(oxy moron right there) to be able to just peel the sound deadening off the back of the stock carpet. came off like i was peeling an orange. i like the stock carpet compared to walmart just cause it's contoured to fit the driver's compartment area.
