Default LS1 or 03 Cobra

Hey guys in the market for 98-02 camaro or maybe a cobra but they are a little to expensive for me. What are yalls race results against Cobra's? Of course stock and stock the cobra will take the Ls1 but with H/C how would we match up to the cobra?

My brother is looking at an 03 or 04 Cobra right now. I went with him the other day to test drive one...honestly, I could not tell a difference between it and my Camaro SS. Even he was like..."it's not as fast as I would have hoped." DOHC verses Push Rods??...I don't know. You can pick up an LS1...stay 2000 or up though (actually faster than the 98's or 99's) for about $12000 for a nice one. Put $3k into in for H/C/Intake/LT's with ORY and you're running in the low 12's on street tires at about 420 rwhp. Basically, I, as well as my brother was unimpressed with a 390 hp Cobra vs. my 345 hp SS. His words exactly "I thought 390 hp would have been much faster. Your car feels faster to me than this."

The 00's are not faster than the 98-99's You are thinking of the 01-02's with the LS6 intake and different cam. Plus a few minor things.

As for power..the 03/04's will make 450+rwhp for 1k in mods and thats it. Hell many start at 370-390rwhp stock on average.

get a ls1 do gears,stall,h/c,normal bolt ons. Youll be in the mid 11s easy. Youll spend a lot less $$$ doing it this way. Cobra can easily be modded to run low 11s too but the cost of buying the car might break you. my 0.2

No the 2000 had the same LS1 intake manifold as the 98-99's The 2001/2002 had the LS6 manifold along with the new cam from the vortec truck series

So you're asking if a $12,000 F-body with $20,000 of mods would be faster than a $32,000 stock Cobra Terminator?

Um... yes.

I dont know about exhaust manifolds. I havent heard of that one. I know the 2001+ has the LS6 intake manifold because there isnt an EGR on top like the 98-00 has. I believe the EGR is internal or doesnt run one.

I know for a fact the 98-00 has the LS1 intake and the 01-02 has the LS6 intake. Those who state otherwise are wrong.

Not to beat this one into the ground or anything, but I was told that putting shorty headers on the 98-99 would give you power...not much but a little. By replacing the manifolds on the 00-02, you gain basically nothing...better flowing manifolds allowed for more power from 2000 and up. Does this really matter though? I may very well be wrong and my apologies if I am.
The answer to this guy's question is LS1 any day of the week! Screw "literally with the roots blower" the 4.6 crapstang.

i can speak from experience. i just sold my 03 Cobra. it had 500rwhp and i drove it everday and got 18mpg. you cant beat the ride, the easy 500rwhp with minimal mods (mine still had the factory mainfolds), or the engineering poured into a factory blown, IRS, and well refined sprts car. like i said above, i sold it. i went and bought Nineball's old 1LE Z28 and an 01 Z71 to pull it with. i had a LS1 TA and Z28 and just like the F-Body platform better. i have a 370 cube forced induction motor in the works. when done it would hand my 03 Cobra its A$$, and cost less money to boot. its all in what you want.

I have told you 3 times now that the 98-00 have the LS1 intake manifold!

The 2001's+ have the LS6 intake in which yes does make a difference as the 01's+ generally dyno higher.

Your info is 100% wrong period. You take any 01 and 02 LS6 intake that comes stock on a 2001+ LS1 and put that on any 98-00 car that has a LS1 intake, you will make more power. Why on earth you think people are doing this????

they stopped making the "old" LS1 intakes in 2000. ALL LS1/6 motors built in and after 2001 came with a LS6 intake. Corvette and F-body. From This old thread.. https://ls1tech.com/forums/printthre...5&page=2&pp=10

As much as you are completely correct, you are misunderstanding what he said. He was talking about the EXHAUST manifolds, not the INTAKE manifold.

So no need to be upset.

My apologies on the clarification issues. I did mean the EXHAUST MANIFOLD...not the intake manifold.

If you can get a good deal on a cobra, I would consider it, although I would not buy one. My friend has a 99 cobra with a 03 motor dropped in it. He got the 03 motor and trans for 6 grand, good deal. All he did to it was 3"pully, bassani headers, x pipe, and tailpipes, K&N filter, shifter, and tune. He then blew the IRS rear and went to a solid axle, he also has drag radials, he ran a 11.91 2 days ago. They are easy to mod, even though the IRS rear sucks. His sounds awesome too. I do like my car better though.
