Default SFI ratings and recertification period?

Has anyone actually even been asked to show a recertification for an SFI part (I know some people have had harnesses checked but it)?

ex: if you look at the SFI rating on the new bellhousings, they are a 6.1

well if you go and look up that rating on SFIs site, http://www.sfifoundation.com/

it says a recertification every 5 years (I would like someone to explain why you should ever need a bellhousing recertified.....)

now I know these SFI bellhousings have not even been out 2 years so none of them could be over their limit, but it just brings up the old point of:

"are they just making rules only to turn around and not enforce them?"

Default

Every track we go to has checked our experiation dates. The point to the recertification is because those items could be damaged and not be visible. So to protect you from damage/accidents (and for my own conscience) they need to be inspected to be sure they are up to their designed task. Rarely do they not meet recertification, but it is to keep parts from a previous wreck from being sold (used parts only) and use on a car that may need it.
