Default Swapping to plastic gas tank?

I have no freakin' idea if this is the right section for this question, but it's for my (primarily) track car so here it is:

I have pulled my metal gas tank out of my '94 Z28 in preparation to install a new Walbro fuel pump. A buddy who knows I just did this is offering me the plastic gas tank out of a '01 Camaro SS.

Questions:
1. I think it is a direct plug and play. Yes or no? I have not pulled one of these plastic tanks yet so I'm not sure.

2. What is the weight savings? (that's why I would do it)

3. Any problems with my fuel gage working properly?

4. What would be a fair price? He has left $ up to discussion.

I think there are some forum members who have done this already. Please chime in.

Hey Todd, I researched this because I have a '98, and from I've read/heard, it isn't worth it.. The savings is 18lbs supposedly, but the sending units are different I believe, and your gauge won't work properly. Do a search in this section and you'll see the thread I'm talking about.

Wouldn't the sending unit be in the tank already? My buddy will give me the whole she-bang. The tank with LS1 fuel pump and everything still in it. Hasn't been taken apart yet, so I figured I would swap my Walbro in there and leave everything else that is not replaced by the Racetronix harness that I also got.

OR... are you saying the LS1 sending unit will send a signal that my LT1 gas gauge can't interpret?

The pump mounts differently between pastic & metal tanks. One is screw in the other isnt. The two sending units are differnt IIRC, so you'll have to modify one by swapping the parts over. I'm not sure, but I think it was Magnus that showed this on his site.

No problem. Hopefully I'll see you at the track when it gets a little cooler.

How about approaching the problem a different way?

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...39#post3558439

Instead of going through all the re-wiring and fabbing, could a LS1 plastic tank be modified from a screw in pump mount to a metal tank bolt in style?

That might be a hell of a lot easier. Just modify the plastic tank to accept the entire LT1 pump assembly?

As I said in the other thread, this may be a stupid question, but I don't have both tanks sitting side by side to compare them.
