Ditto. Call Steve or Gordon and see what they have to say. You should not be breaking that TA if it was installed properly.

Yea, but 90% of the 9sec cars out there are no where near a full weight F-body. Weight is the biggest contributer to breaking drivetrain parts.....or so i've heard... (my Torque Arm told me!)

The weight I think did it as well. I also launch it w/ a 2 step. So it hits hard. Then it went boom.
This was installed propely have installed & adjusted many. + adjusted many other driveline's pinion angles etc.
This piece has been in the car for 2 years plus, pretty sure.
But only 20 so runs with slicks, mostly a street car.
Dont think it should have gone so easily, + it did some friggen damage to other pieces.
Broke the ABS sensor, Stripped the yoke on the driveshaft, destroyed the universals & the u-bolts.
+ the trans has to come out so I can get all the metal out of it from the output shaft stripping the splines out of the yoke nice.

Does this torque arm have a solid front mount? How were your lower control arms set-up? Just curious.

Thanks,

Daren

holy crap how did in break like that, that is very odd, it broke pretty clean, on the tubing? you would have thought it would have bent there instead of snapping like that.
is that the only part that broke on the drive shaft.

Definitely call them up and let them know. I'm making 850 rwtq, with a 3400 lbs car going 9 teens and mine is doing fine.

No it had a poly front mount.
I had a heim/heim LCA's all set to stock . The car is also stock suspension cept the T/A, LCA/PHB & STB
Full weight pig still got air on launches.
It hit real hard on the line. I think that combined with the weight helped. It snapped the upper support tube right after the support gusset welded to the bottom tube.
It actually looks a little stretched right at the fracture.
Dont Really care to put another spohn piece in the car, this one cost me enough.

i think it is more of a freak of nature it broke like that more then then design.
could have been a defect in material or craftmanship.
id like to see some more pictures if you have them.

you could always get it replaced then sell it and buy another one if he replaces it for free.

I agree, not the norm. Spohn builds a very quality torque arm. Bob

Why haven't you talked to Spohn yet? We can all give you are opinions but it doesn't make sense that haven't called them and see what they will do to remedy the problem.

Well I put this post up was for a recommendation for a torque arm.
I thought I had a good one under the car. After this I'm kind of sour w/spohn stuff, even if it was a freak. I will not put another on the car, no thanks. I may see if they'll replace it, but then it is getting sold. This is not a bash post.

The very few breakages we have had have all been on a Moser 12 bolt. Once the rear mounting bolts loosen up, it doesn't matter what torque arm you have, things are gonna break.

The only one i have heard of breaking is Todd Brandons at the mounting point. and i believe it was the old style which was improved.

pretty bad when one mess up turns you off for good, if it broke twice i could understand, but freak things happen.

Ill say it looks like fatigue from the support bar being welded from the top bar to the bottom bar. Could be just the way that im looking at the picture though.
