Start on the pass side where the two hard lines come off of the fire wall box, take those lines off and the dryer can on the pass side fender. Then remove your lid and the tray that holds your radiator you can pull the a/c radiator out. Then unbolt the a/c condensor and its mounting bracket from the block.

Just follow the A/C lines and take it all out.

If you do not want to save the housing the easiest way to remove the interior parts is with a hammer and big screw driver. Remove the a/c fan motor, dissconnect the heater water hoses, remove the a/c lines (After bleeding off the freon) and start breaking the plastic housing up from the inside and outside.
Be carefull what wiring you dissconnect, make sure that it only goes to the a/c system. If you pull out the entire system make sure to block off the vacum hose that goes to the a/c control switch.

What about eliminating the A/C, but keeping the heater?

You have to keep the box under the dash and the part that sticks out of the firewall, unless you want to do some fabrication. I have unbolted all of mine and been working on it, off and on, the past week. The evaporator core weighs almost nothing. Most of the weight is the blower. Next is the heater core.

I'm taking pictures as I go, but it's not finished yet. Basically I'm cutting off the part that sticks out from the firewall and making a block off plate that will mate up with the part that's left inside the car. But then you lose the part where the air comes out of the blower, around, and back into the heater core. One solution I heard was to make a small extension box on the firewall side. I'm modifying the inside of the heater box to let the air come through that way. You have to cut out a section, but then it's open to the inside of the car, and has to be blocked off too.

I didn't want to give up my heater or defrost either.

There are some bolts on the outside, and some on the inside. There are a couple at the top that will be really hard to get to with the dash still in. I already had my dash completely out to see what else I could get rid of behind it... If you don't get them all out, the box will break like it has for most people who've tried it.

The inner part is plastic. The outer, upper part is plastic. The lower outer part is fiberglass, which I didn't realize until I already went to work on it with the hacksaw and no breathing protection... That dust is some nasty stuff.

Here's what I've got so far. The first pic is a pic from the top, showing what you've got to work with. It's from where the passenger seat would be. There is a little box that sits on top, that mates to the fresh air intake in the cowl. It's not really relevant, just thought I'd explain it.

The second pic is the upper half already cut off, and starting on the bottom half. (the bottom half is turned upside down in this picture).

The third pic is a view from the firewall side, showing how the output from the blower normally comes outside, and then back in. (I had already cut it off and just propped it back up to show the flow)

The last pic shows the piece inside that has to be cut out to give the blower an outlet if you put a flat cover plate even with the firewall. I plan to make an "L" shaped piece of sheet metal to cover the part that is open to the cabin area now.
