Default I searched: Is the upper PHB needed?

Search resulted in a yes it is VS. a no you don't need it.

Is there a real answer to this or is it that subjective?

I havn't run one for a season or so and my PHB mounting points are fine, but my car only cuts 1.40s. Some of the hard hitting guys have to renforce the PHB mounting points because they bend.

The PHB brace is definitely needed on any street-driven car. Without it, the chassis end PHB mount will collapse.

No problems here, and I cut 1.4x 60fts as well as drive it on the street.

Mine;s been off.. I'm not doing anything impressive at the track yet, but have put about 8K on the street with it off, no ill effects. I know nothing is bent either.. I took some measurments before I took it off, and have checked them once a eason since then, nothing has moved. If you are road racing the car.. then it's probably a good idea to leave it in.

I put mine back on after noticing the paint cracking on the mount where its welded to the subframe so something is moving there. If you boxed it in it would be ok probably but I just put the upper back on siince its only a couple pounds and clears my exhaust fine..

I've gone 1.35 without mine, but if I could find one, I would put one back on the car.

The biggest reason I would personally keep it, even on a 1/4 mile car, is if you get pretty far out of shape on a pass. If you put the car sideways in the lane, there's a whole lot of stress on that single frame point, trying to push the subframe rails together/apart -- not to mention the stress on the single mount point. By keeping the upper bar in there, you're tying together the L and R subframes and distributing that load.

Down the track, you don't need it. Trust me, I have fixed a number of suspension issues on my car and it currently leaves straight and tracks straight and that UPB does not do anything at the track.

But you will notice it gone when taking street corners... car feels less tight.

Well the new setup is not gonna be too street friendly. Drivability is defined as getting from the trailer, down the track and back to the trailer without stalling.

i have one or two up in my attic, one for sure. i might put it back on. i've had it off for 4 years with shitload of passes and plenty of street miles with no ill effects that i know of, but this has me thinking, i'm going to examine that area for any signs of stress before the spring and we'll see.

if you have a cage in the car that might help a little if you take it out
