Default for all you hvac whiners

Maybe im overly mechanically inclined but it was extremely easy to remove the heater/hvac box granted there was some bolts and connectors but still easy I only broke one clip that holds the harness to the dash. So you guys that are worried about doing this mod dont be. even the bolt behind the intake is pretty easy with a snap-on rachet wrench. I also removed all the heater ducts which made the reinstallation easier.

just thought id share

I un-did a lot of bolts, finally got tired of it and grabbed it and ripped it out. Broke it clean off where the bolt goes in behind the intake. Ground that down and that was it. Fast removal haha

I also didn't have a difficult time pulling my HVAC stuff out... though it was still a little bit of a PITA.

If you want REAL fun... go put all the HVAC stuff back in. It is 100000x harder to put it back in properly than to take it out!

i pulled it all out of a car with no motor and put it all back into a car with a motor in 4 hrs, including the ENTIRE interior harness as well, no problems at all, i left all the harness attached to the dash and all the vents and all, slid it in all together.

I did the same more or less... part of my problem was my interior harness being brand new from GM... it wasn't quite molded properly and took some time to get everything routed properly again. It wasn't real time consuming and went in fairly quickly... but it was a little bit of a pain. Not really on the top 10 list of things to do on the car again.

Is everybody cutting all the HVAC wiring out? Im just scared to cut something I will need later? Is it easy to know what to cut? I plan on taking out everything I can.

I'd leave it alone... The weight savings don't justify themself should you ever decide to reverse the process. Vehicle wiring harnesses are fairly expensive.

It depends on what you plan to do in the future. If you have any doubts whatsoever about reinstalling it at some point......don't cut any wires out.
On the other hand if your going to keep the car forever and you know for a fact it won't ever go back in, then just trace the wires down one by one and remove them. Personally I would leave your interior lighting wires intact, they come in handy for hooking up aftermarket guages.

As for removing the HVAC, I tried being subtle but ended up just ripping the crap out.......

Its like a 7 or 8mm socket and a screw times 1000 to get it out, patience is the key.
