Default How much RWHP to break into the 9's?

I am going to be hitting the track next weekend for the 1st time with my new 427CI LS2 with ETP LS7 top end... My race weight is ~3350lbs and the car has a built 700R4 with 4.10's and a 28x10 Hoosier slick... I expect the car to sixty foot in the mid 1.4 range... I have a 3 disk converter that is setup for spray, so it's a little tight on the motor (~4500RPM)... I suspect this will hurt my sixties a little...

So the question is, how much RWHP would be needed to dip into the 9's with my setup?

I'll post timeslips and dyno chart after I get back from the track next weekend...

i think somewhere near 550 rwhp if its an n/a motor with a broad powerband. with that 4.10 gear you might have to spin her up pretty high.

I am shooting for 9.9 @ 135 with a 1.45 sixty... does that sound right?

What RPM would I go through the traps at with the converter locked... how much would the tires grow at that speed... I run them with tubes on a 10" wide rim if that matters...

9.90 @ 135 is hookin pretty hard. at 135 mph, your rpm shouldnt be too high. 7K rpms i bet depending on how efficient that converter is. esp locked up it will be closer to 6800 i bet. again all on paper.

I think you'd have to have closer to 600rwhp assuming a car that weighs 35-3600lb.

570rwhp will get you in the 9.9x range with an auto tranny

@3350, 4500 stall, I'd say 550ish rwhp, MPH around 136 for a 9.95-9.99.
DA about 2000ft

I am only a couple HP shy of that and I share the same opinion as you... we'll find out what happens when I hit the track on the weekend... I am waiting for a lightweight hood to arrive and there are a couple more lbs left to be taken out of the car with things like the front headlight assembly and door bars... so I would say that I should end up with a race weight of 3250lbs within the near future... if the car does not leave hard enough this weekend I will send out the converter to get restalled to about 5500RPM...

DA will not be on my side... 2500-3000ft is what it's looking like... but we see -1000ft in the cool fall air up here... so I'll be happy to see 10.3's this weekend... but plan to see 9's before the end of the season...

I have a TNT ring on the car that I plan on trying once I get comfortable in the car...

if you dynoed right at 550rwhp with slicks on you got 9's in the bag with a good working chassis and suspension...

Thats a very broad generalization there. ****, I know of more cars making 550 or more at the wheels running 10's than running 9's. Weight, DA, short time, and how the power comes on plays an important role. Look at all the dyno queen cars making 600, 700, 800 hp and not in the 9's. It takes more than just power to make it happen, trust me, my car will make much more than 550 rwhp and won't run 9's. Weight and weight distribution is why.

I agree, that is why I gave the specifics of my setup... it's drag optimized light weight car

thats why i metioned a good working chassis and suspension.... most of the cars you know of making that power are street cars that cant hit 9's.... full interior, radio, speakers, sound deadening and so on...

and yes he menttioned his weight already... i still stand by my judgement..

my supra weighed 3700lbs and ran 10.18@132 with 580 rwhp... thats was through a th400... the car cosistently 60 ft'd 1.42 on m&h drag radials(275/60/15) I would foot/ e- brake the car up to about 3600 rpm and leave with 12 psi of boost...

so I would say if you hp is in that range weighing 400lbs less then my car you should dip in the 9's pretty easy if all is working properly on your car..
