Took the car for the fist time with the 383 CI. to the track!
Well, I had street tires (firehawk because I do not want to break anything since this is my first run). Race weight is stock (I assume it should around 3700 LBS because it is a fully loaded 1998 SS + my sub box + I had some Eradispeed rotors in the trunk with jack spare tire). I only have sub-frame connectors to keep my tires from spinning much (I know I need to invest more in my suspension).
I lunched at idle and spun the crap of my 1st and 2nd gears. The wheels stopped spinning when I hit 3ed. Also, I was shifting conservatively at 6000 rpm instead of 6500 rpm because I wanted to try it out first and if all is good. Got a 2.19 60 foot, and a 12.3 @ 120 MPH.
As soon as I got ready to do my 2nd run and really test this thing, they said “NO, you have to have a helmet (which I didn’t) to run again.” So, I only got 1 run at the track. The disappointing thing was I know I could do way much better butI had no chance to prove it! Maybe next time!
So, what do you guys think? Was this an "OK" test run?

not bad, I think with some tuning and hooking, you'll be in the low 11s high 10s based on your mph. Just depends on if you can maximize your drivetrain to use all the power. Good luck!

Thanks!
I will get a helmet and drag radials for the next time I go there. Hope I could hit 11.5.

If the car weighs 3700 lb. and ran 120mph in the 1/4, you're looking at just a hair under 500rwhp. At any rate, with what you know, it should run 11.30's with traction, if you get a 1.65 60' time. Your mph may actually drop a little, but that's no big deal if the ET drops too. You may also see a slight mph gain, by using the 6500 shift points you want to use.

VINCE, I have the stock 3.42
It'llrun, well, I dynoed @ 450 rwhp and 447 rwtq.
Next week i will be heading to the track again. I am going to get some Nitto radials in the back and see what it dose.
Also, I need to get A/F ratio to the proper area (12.5). I am @ 11.8 A/F ratio. So, there might be like 10 rwhp more.

If that is your A/F.. Yes you have some more power to be had.. Those are still good times with 3.42's... I think with traction you will easily run mid 11's if you keep your current weight. If you do some weight reduction you have the potential to run 10's on motor..

The mph is there so it shows you are making good power. The mph should go up with better traction and higher shift points.

VINCE,
I hope so! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
I am kinda scared that I will break the diff. But, all the diffs out there are very noisy, and I hate that! How much can it handle you think?
Thanks!

Well my buddy Al has a similar setup and on stock 3.42's and a 383ci with 600 plus rwhp and over 700rwtq.. His diff held on several passes.. Actually it is still holding today.. Of course the horsepower was attained with nitrous..

hey RUF SS do you run at SA raceway. i go there all the time. i know that they are strict with helmets but they also got some you can use. also they are pretty easy with roll cages. i have gone there on several fridays in my 69 camaro without a rollcage and ran 10.40s all day. they never threw me off the track eather. i am sure that on saturdays they are stricter since they hold competions.

They already warned you about a helmet, what do you think they're going to do if you ran in the 11s with no rollbar? Or is it an IHRA track? They'll let you go 11.50 with no bar, but no faster.
Just thought I would point that out. Congrats on a good first start!
