a Snell 2000 the maximum u will need as far as requirements, and i think a snell 95 is good for a few more years. a Simpson or Bell is a good helmet. get something comfortable, and that is snug but not restrictive. i don't see why u need a $400 helmet, find a $200 snell 2k helmet and call it a day. if u plan on any kind of auto x or road course stuff, then i would look to see what the regs are.

if your car goes fast then you should have a roll bar in it which is metal/CM which is hard.....

anyways back to the helmet deal...

get whatever helmet your comfortable with... its your body, i just wanted you to think about what your trying to protect.

no man, im jsut curious on one thing.... where do you get that the helme ti posted is motorcylce? I found it under AUTOMOTIVE Helmets.. And it is a Snell M2000, so does that mean it's perfectly safe under drag racing standards? All im curious about is why you think its a cycle helmet.. check the link again. So one thing unless im totally looking at the wrong thing... http://www.helmetcity.com/page/HC/PR...ellm/cl15black

This helmet is a...
-Car helmet correct?
-Snell 2000 correct?

Just wanting to make sure

Try Cycle Gear Inc. I found a HJC helmet for street use for $99, can't beat that. I would also look at local bike stores. If its good enough to get on a bike & ride down the HWY its good enough to sit in a car & run a 1/4 mile.

the breathers on top of the helmet "usually" signify it as a cycle helmet because the way they are designed is to let the airl flow over them and in the helmet venting the air.... in a car there shouldnt be any air rushing over you ..... i could be 100% wrong but im almost positive its a cycle helmet.

helmets are also rated by there interior... like nylon or nomex...

nylon is not fire proof and will melt to your face like plastic... nomex is fire retardant.

the one you listed is nylon

why not get this one its not too pricey and is some kind of fire retardant material inside.

the major diff in safety between motorcycle helmets and race car helmets is fire protection.

the shells are basically identical, but the interior lining of most motorcycle helmets is more breathable... but not fire retardant.. some cheap helmets are downright flammable plastic.

the auto racing helmets have a fire retardant inner lining.

for what you're looking for, either helmet works fine. just be sure it has a current SNELL rating... dont worry about the DOT rating.. putting a foam ice chest on your head would pass the DOT standards.. LOL!

so is the one i posted a good enough/new snell. Looking to spend under $150 here. I know its my head but im not really worried about crashing or fire or anything as i only run 13's. Anyone else pick out a nice good snell or whatever for that price range if the one i picked out isnt good enough snell? Thanks!

think of it this way, all of us have accelerated to 100+ with our foot on the floor on the street, going just as fast as you will in the 1/4 no helmet, no safety gear, probably t-tops off etc. AND there wasnt medical personel on hand like at the drag strip. dude any helmet will work. i use a motorcylce helmet.........its fine. if you crash at the strip in your car, it wont cause anymore damage then on the street. the car is safe, and so is your head. buy that helmet.

That's a horrible way to think about it. It's your HEAD! Just because you do it on the street doesn't mean anything, it's still dumb even though WE ALL do it. I would buy the best one you can afford. But, on that note, one of the big motorcycle magazines did a huge writeup on helmets awhile back. Some of the Pep-Boys $79.99 helmets scored just as high if not HIGHER than some of the $400.00+ helmets. Sometimes you pay for the name.
