Default lightweight carpet

Anyone know where I can get some light carpet? SpeedInc. lists it but says NA.

Speed Inc's supplier changed the way they were producing it and there was some fitment issues, so I think they did away with it. Year One also has some but I've gotten mixed answers as to whether or not it comes for the same manufactuer that Speed Incs did.

You can buy a universal light weight carpet called Ozite. I bought some and it's nice stuff, very light also. I haven't installed mine yet but with alittle 3M contact glue and an iron it should conform very nice. If you do a search in this section you can find some links to it. I think I paid $14 a linear yard (80"0 wide).

You can removed weight in other areas than switching to lighweight carpet. Do what rocketman said and keep the stock carpet. Remove other stuff like spare tire, jack, rear seat delete, k-member, etc. It all depends on how radical you want to take it.

Here's some numbers I just got for you. 4 yards of Ozite weighs exactly 11lbs, factory carpet with backing removed is 23.5lbs. Now here's the thing, to cover the same area as the factory carpet, you only need 110" out of the 144" of Ozite, and I beleive you only need alittle over 65" out of the 80" width. So basicly you can loose about 15lbs over factory with no backing for about $75 shipped. Light carpet is well worth it IMO.

FWIW I weighed a 4 yard roll of Ozite and measured it at 6lbs uncut.

I weight the stock carpet with all the backing and included the rubber matting that sits against the firewall and that weighed in at 54lbs.

Is that an 80" wide roll or 40"? I just double checked mine, 4 yards of 80" came out to 11lbs again. I think our scales are off, lol.

Here's where I got mine, http://yourautotrim-store.stores.yah...wideozite.html .

Thats where I bought mine from.

It could be off, I dunno but I do have two scales and measured across both and got the same result.

How does it look compared to the stock carpet?
How does it lay around the curves and corners?

What glue do you guys use when installing it in the car?

4 yards of 80" wide to cover the floor of an F-Body you say? Hmmm I think I'll be calling them shortly.

I take out the carpet during the fall and spring when I race the most, I hate the way the car looks w/o it. I took off the padding from the carpet long ago, but in an atempt to make the car quieter inside I put Dynamat in its place. The car is nice and quiet but now my carpet weighs a ton! LOL

Since Ozite needs to be glued down, would I be able to put my stock carpet with the Dynamat over the Ozite in the summer?

I bought the Ozite on Monday and it was at my door today Wednesday. I ordered 5 yards of 80", more than enough to do my interior and trunk.

The amazing part other than it getting here in 2 days is the entire role and plastic it was shipped in is less than 13lbs. This stuff rocks. By the way it's going in my Chevelle.
