Are you using 50/50 mixture of VHT and MEK? I was told that you can use straight VHT or (VHT and alcohol mix so you don't clog the sprayer) and let it sit for a minute and then u'll hook good, is that wrong? Also, we can't light the streets up here, the risk of getting caught is too high. Is it effective without fire? Will the mixture of MEK & VHT clog the sprayers?

What is the benefit of using MEK instead of alcohol for the mixture?

Thanks for all the info guys, I'm learning a lot!!
Alcohol didnt evaporate as fast for us. ANd we light this **** everytime we use it, and do it for a reason. It keeps us warm, it dries faster. and its ready immediately.

MEK does kill rubber seals in the sprayers. Thats why we use teflon.

I dont use 50/50 unless its real cold out...

Alcohol breaks down the VHT though. Yeah it might make it easier to spray but it won't be nearly as sticky. You want to use VP activator to thin it out.

Yea this is all new to me...

There should be a full write-up on this subject, because this is one of the most crucial part of street racing... No matter how much power you have, it's useless if you can't hook up.

It is called VP Activator. You can't buy it online due to Haz Mat restrictions, but you can find it through one of VP Racing's dealers. Here is a link to it:

Poor it into a weed sprayer, the one with a mannul pump and prep the road

As your prepping it, light it on fire and spray it evenly heating it up nice. It will get super sticky when it is on fire, but this has to be done on a Very controled road, WITH NO TRAFFIC AT ALL!

Thats how you really prep a street

Also do a burnout in the vht....pour in under each tire a bit, and do a burnout on top of it and then keep the tires spinning coming out of the burnout...

Then pour a small puddle of VHT for each tire to spin in. Do your burn out in it, and then spin out of it. Do this a couple few times. Then launch about a foot in front of the puddle. The ground should be warm and sticky. You can also use a pesticide spray bottle and put a light mist down for the first 40ft or so if you choose. Just be prepared to ruin the sprayer after each use! Sometimes if you do this, another friend of yours might still be torching the lane after soem wht has been sprayed....and it may catch fire a bit. No biggie, it will go out or else you go BACK TO THE FUTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've never seen any of the older/faster guys spray it on their tires.

Yup

Yes I am. If its not hot enough outside to help it dry it damn sure will still be gooey and not sticky.

MEK is the closest thing as their activator btw and you can buy it at Home Depot or Lowes. Thats why I use it.

I worked at drag strip and we used VP Lane Choice 5 and 6. 6 is the **** for humid or moist environments and to the feel it isnt tacky unless your rubber is hot.

We got tired of spending big bucks on the activator and analyzed what was in it. Thats why we started buying MEK to "activate" or cut it down with.

We have been using pure VHT out here this winter and it has been cold as hell. It does take some good prep though. A few good burnouts will do it. You can nearly lose a shoe if you walk over the tread after the race.

We also bring out the torch occasionally for the big $ races.

Try cutting it down with MEK and watch your 3-4 burnouts stop and come down to one good one.

Hell cut it with just 30% MEK and youll see a huge difference. Just dont use the cut stuff to do a burnout in. Use the pure stuff to do that and far enough away from the starting line. Try it and report back. i already know what it will do Youd be surprised at how much rubber you can keep on your tires too
