Just installed my M/T ET Street Radials, and I have a few questions.
1. What PSI should I run them at?
2. I went from a 245/50/R16 (stock size) tire, to a 255/50/R16 (M/T’s) tire, will it mess up my shift points at all? I’ve asked a few different people, and they said no.
3. Should I ‘break them in’ by doing a good burnout before I go to the track?
4. How long of a burnout should I do at the track? I was thinking I should back up right before the burnout box, put my car in 2nd, and do a 2-3 second burnout, then immediately stage the car and GO! Is this correct?
5. Also, do you guys have any other tips for me?
Thanks!

1. What PSI should I run them at? Start at 18 psi. Track conditions dictate this, but I generally will only drop the pressure if the track is not hooking.
2. I went from a 245/50/R16 (stock size) tire, to a 255/50/R16 (M/T’s) tire, will it mess up my shift points at all? I’ve asked a few different people, and they said no. Should not mess up shift points. Difference in height is approximately .50 inch.
3. Should I ‘break them in’ by doing a good burnout before I go to the track?
Ehhh. Burnouts with ET DR's on the street tend to cause puckering or peeling (for lack or better term). Leave the big burnouts for the track; they are very soft tires that wear out very fast.
4. How long of a burnout should I do at the track? I was thinking I should back up right before the burnout box, put my car in 2nd, and do a 2-3 second burnout, then immediately stage the car and GO! Is this correct?
Minimum 5 seconds for the first burnout at the track will do it.
5. Also, do you guys have any other tips for me?
When burning out; stand on the brake with your left foot and immediately floor the gas to WOT. Don't "ease" into the gas pedal. The sooner you can getter the rpms up (and keep them up), the better. When finished with the burnout, "walk" the car out past the burnout box (but not past the starting line!) to clean off the tires.

Wow, thanks! Great info!
BTW, my M/T’s are set at 32 PSI right now, I guess I have to go lower them before Wednesday! LOL
Thanks again!

it wont ruin your tires. in fact. IMO those tires last the longest at 22-24 psi. higher psi will wear out the middles. that goes for any drag radial. i have seen the best hook on teh small tires at 20-22 psi. the bigger tires like to be taken down to 14 psi (the big 325 radials).

I think 18psi will be too low.
I went 1.6 60's and mid 12s on 30ish psi and about a 5-6 second hard burnout when they were new.
Just see what your car likes and go from there.
Edit- and this is on the 27" tall 255 drag radial.

Imho those tires 255 50 R16s are a great DR...I used to run mine at 25 psi on the street...No more or you'll wear out the centers as said before...I also started at 17 psi at the track and went down to 15...went consistent 1.55 60's with them...They like a nice burn out and I launched them off idle flashing the converter...You'll love them...

BTW, when I launch the car w/ these tires, should I brake stall the converter then launch it, or should I launch it off idle?
Also, should I just floor it, or do I have to ease into it like I do w/ my street tires?

MT Drag Radials with 4 speed
I am curious as to who has used the DRs on a mild stick car leaving at 4500 rpm and muning high 12:00s and how much spin resulted. I have heard they don't work well for stick cars, but I like my car to spin about 1 revolution out of the hole - I do not like to bog the car. (Muncie and 4.11 gears not much starting ratio) My MT E/T streets do this well aired up and no burnout. The only real challenge is the poor and inconsistent prepping of the track down here. Some days it hookes very hard. Other days it does not hook. I usually ajust tire pressure for this and if the track is too pittiful, actually do a burnout rather than just clean the tires. Has anyone had similar results with the DRs?
